“Let’s tell my mom and Chelsea.” Nathan murmured against my stomach. We had been laying like this for the past hour, just watching and feeling little Chase kick up a storm. It was blissful.

“Nathan, are you sure?” I asked. I didn’t want to push him into something he wasn’t ready for. Plus, god only knows how Peggy would react. “Oh, and Chelsea already knows.”

            Silence.

“Did you hear me?” I cringed, wondering why he wasn’t responding.

“Yeah, I heard you,” He said, completely calm.

“Oh…” I said, looking up at him, his eyes were still glued to my stomach. “Okay, well let’s go tell Peggy then.”

He nodded and I followed him downstairs, hand in hand.  We found Peggy sitting quietly in the living room, watching some lifetime movie.

“Mom,” Nathan spoke assertively.  Peggy slowly pulled her gaze from the television to her oldest son, and then down to our intertwined hands.

“What’s going on?” She questioned carefully, eyes still staring at our hands.

“It’s my baby.” Nathan said. There wasn’t an ounce of fear or unsure-ness in his voice. “I’m the father.”

The reaction that I got next was not one that I was expecting.”

“Get out.” Peggy said, finally bringing her gaze to me.

“Mom, you can’t-“ Nathan said, but was quickly cut off.

“Now.” She said, her voice completely calm. “I want you out of this house in an hour. If not I will call the cops, and have them remove you. I do not want a slut living in this house, and I forbid you from seeing my son.”

“Peggy…I – I’m sorry…” I spoke softly, tears were forming in my eyes and my lip was quivering. “I didn’t mean for this to happen…”

“Anna, go pack your stuff. I’m not kidding, I want you out of this house in an hour.” She said. Turning back to the movie on the television.

I ripped my hand out of Nathan’s and ran for the stairs. This couldn’t be happening; I had no place to go.

My apartment. I could go there, couldn’t I? I used the allowance Peggy had given me to pay rent every month, just because I couldn’t bear getting rid of the one thing that reminded me of my mother.

Once I got into my room, I started furiously throwing things into random bags, trying to pack my stuff as fast as I could.  I hear the door push open behind me, but I ignored it. If it was Peggy coming to shame me some more, she could go elsewhere. I wiped the tears off of my cheeks, as more began to fall. What was I going to do? I can’t talk to Nathan, and I’m going to be on my own, in a shitty apartment. How is this going to be a good life for my baby? He deserves so much better. I continued stuffing my things into any container I could find.

“Anna?” Nathan whispered from behind me.

            Ahh, so it wasn’t Peggy.

“What are you doing here Nathan, you heard what your mom said.” I said, my voice cracking.

“I’m coming with you.” Now this, this surprised me. I turned towards him cautiously and raised an eyebrow.

“You can’t do that Nathan. Your mom doesn’t want me speaking with you, and doesn’t want anything to do with me or this baby.  How is this going to work? It’s hopeless. I’m hopeless. Get out while you still can…” I whispered, slowly falling to the floor. I was becoming overwhelmed. I put my head in my hands, and started crying heavier. I heard the door close and figured Nathan had taken my advice. I actually felt my heart break a little.

            I was wrong.

“Anna, I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to go where ever you go. Who cares about my mother? If she doesn’t want anything to do with you or the baby, as far as I’m concerned she can go fuck herself. If she’s going to be this much of a bitch, I don’t want anything to do with her either. So where are we going? I have all my stuff packed and into my car already.”

I looked up at the man kneeling in front of me in wonder.

“You don’t have to do this Nathan. I wont blame you.” I murmured, looking back down at the floor.

“I know I don’t have too, I want too,” He said. “Come on, let’s go.”
