I decided to take a quick break from our camping story to post this one. I have been working on this chapter for a little over a month and it is a bit more serious than some of my other fun chapters. Let me know in the comments if you prefer drama or light and fun. Thanks! <3

"Hey Dad." Kurt said when he saw his dad working on a car at the repair shop. Kurt had stopped by the shop on his way to school to drop off a healthy breakfast. It was usual for Burt to forget to eat before he left for work, so the triplets had made a habit of taking turns to take him some food.

"Hey, that's my boy." Burt said without really turning away from the tire he stood in front of.

"You forgot your breakfast." Kurt said as he placed a brown paper bag in the hand his father outstretched towards him. "Suzanne Somers says that skipping breakfast is suicide."

Burt turned away from the car to glance at his son and then take a peek into the bag. "What is this?"

Kurt leaned against a counter as he listed the contents of the breakfast he had made. "It's an egg white wrap on a sprouted wheat tortilla, half a grapefruit and a green drink."

"Where's my usual breakfast?" Burt asked the minute the words left Kurt's mouth.

Kurt looked up to meet his father's eyes. "A coke and two Slim Jims?"

"Yeah. Breakfast of champions." He said as he closed the bag and walked over to the counter Kurt leaned against.

"Dad, you are not a kid anymore. You have to start taking care of yourself." Burt looked back down at the bag again before setting it on the counter.

"Well, I guess with enough hot sauce, this will be alright. Thanks." He said as he turned away from his son and headed back over to the car. "Hey, Don't forget, Friday night dinner is six o'clock instead of seven this week. Carole and Finn are coming over, and she has to work the night shift. Be sure to tell your brothers." He said as an afterthought.

"I-I cant do this Friday. It's Sing-along Sound of Music at the El Royal Theater. It's a once-a-year event." Kurt said. He felt a little bad about skipping another Friday family dinner.

Burt turned to look at him. "And last week you had to camp out early so you could be first in line for those Grey's Anatomy DVDs."

"Season six, dad." Kurt said a little defensively.

"Okay, those Friday night dinners are a ritual in our family, one your mom started." Burt began to say but it was Kurt who interrupted this time.

"I know, but I'm a teenager. Friday nights are kind of important to me." Kurt was annoyed. He felt bad enough, why was his dad drawing things out. "Why are you making me feel guilty about this? I of all people know how important the relationship is between you and Carol."

"Those dinners are more than important. They're sacred. Okay, the whole point of having something sacred is that it takes precedence over anything else you've got going on."

"Sing-along Sound Of Music is sacred to me." Kurt started before Burt butted back in.

"What? You think I don't know that? Wasn't I the one who bought you that Maria bonnet when you were six?" It was clear that both of the Hummel boys were getting annoyed with each other. Kurt huffed at the mention of the bonnet. "Okay, the point is, if you start giving up stuff like Friday night dinners then you've got nothing to hold onto. Let's face it Kurt, if we don't schedule it, then we don't hang out. If we don't hang out, then our lives- they just go right by each other. We don't share very much."
