It was the middle of the night. The perfect time to get revenge.
Carson had spent all week trying to come up with the prefect way to get back at Kurt. His older brother had ruined his favorite blue sweatshirt in the dryer and Carson couldn't figure out if it had been an accident or attempt to change the way he dresses everyday.
Deciding that it would be funny, Carson chose the childish prank of placing a hand in a bowl of warm water. As he turned on the faucet in the dark and silent kitchen, Carson tried to imagine how Kurt would react. Either he would wake up instantly when his hand was dropped in the water and rat out Carson, or he would continue to sleep through the night and wake up to a wet bed in the morning to then bitch out Carson. Whichever way it happened it would result in Carson laughing hysterically.
The house was quiet. Chris, Finn, Burt and Carol were fast asleep in their rooms upstairs as Carson opened the door to the basement. He began to carry his full bowl of water down the stairs when he heard a noise come from around the corner of the landing.
Carson froze, nervous he would get caught before he even had the chance to fulfill his vengeance. He listened closely, unsure of what exactly he had heard. It could have been a snore. Kurt could be fast asleep and lost in a dream. It could have been Kurt turning in bed. It could have been his phone going off. It could have been nothing, just Carson's brain playing a trick him.
Damn was he paranoid.
There it was again! This time Carson was able to pin point the sound. It was someone's voice. Well, Kurt's voice to be exact. Carson could hear him talking softly in the dark. From where Carson was standing, he couldn't see into the room due to the wall along the stairs. He then figured that wouldn't be able to see anyways due to how dark it was.
Carson assumed Kurt was on the phone with one of his friends, or even more likely his boyfriend. His assumption was proven correct when a few moments later he distinctly heard Kurt say Blaine's name.
Carson's was annoyed. He figured he'd have to abort his plan and try again another night. Then he noticed something odd. He still couldn't see, but Kurt's voice had suddenly changed, almost to the point where Carson couldn't identify it as Kurt's at all.
Realization hit him when the new voice said Kurt's name in the hushed conversation. He couldn't really hear what was being said, but he could make about the distinctive names in the garbled talk.
Kurt wasn't alone down there.
An evil smile broke on Carson's face. Revenge was happening, just not as Carson had originally planned. In hind-sight, this was way better.
Somehow, Blaine had gotten past Burt and had managed to go unnoticed by everyone else in the house. He was definitely going to have to ask him how he had done it for his own use in the future.
In the meantime, Carson was about to get some serious dirt he could use later as blackmail.
The voices continued in a hushed manner below him. Still awkwardly stuck halfway down the basement stairs, Carson began to think through his next course of action.
Realizing he no longer had a need for the bowl of water still in his hands, he headed back up the stairs as quickly and quietly as he could. Once he was in the kitchen again, he emptied the bowl, and began pacing back and forth deep in though.
He knew he at least had to do something. The situation laid out before him was far too good to pass up. The problem was coming up with something worthy of the opportunity.
He could run down the stairs as he screamed his head off to wake up the boys and embarrass them. Or he could sneak downstairs and take a picture of the two, then later send the picture to Kurt so he could see his reaction. That could be used as blackmail for a later use too.
After he decided to take the latter approach, he walked back to the basement door and opened it quietly. He was glad that the door didn't squeak like his upstairs did. It was completely impossible to sneak someone in and out late at night with his dad's room only a few doors down.
He began to walk attentively down the steps, only to stop right before the landing where it turning into the room below. He stood still and listened. He couldn't hear anymore hushed words behind exchanged and the soft sounds of snoring reached his ears. It was now or never.
Slowly, Carson stepped out onto the landing and turned so he could see around the corner and into the bedroom.
It took his eyes a few minutes to adjust to the darkness. When he could finally make out the two figures in the bed, Carson hesitated.
Just a couple of weeks ago at their big graduation party, Kurt had quite nonchalantly revealed that he and Blaine had been sneaking around for a while now. Carson had understood what that had meant at the time, but it never fully registered in his brain before that moment when he saw the two boys curled up together in bed that one warm summers night.
All thoughts of revenge disappeared as his eyes focused on the blissfully happy expressions on both of the sleeping faces before him. Carson didn't dare tarnish the beauty of that perfect moment.
It wasn't too much later that Carson went back to his room and laid in bed, unable to fall asleep, for the rest of the night. He was a mixture of both happy and jealous of what he had just seen. Kurt deserved to be happy. That much had always been obvious to him.
He just couldn't help but think that he deserved the same, and yet, he was alone.
He knew the time would come that he would just look into someone's eyes and know. Know that he was to spend the rest of his life with them.
All he had to do was wait.
