Mackenzie's POV
I flew up the stairs, my sore legs burning from dance, just trying to get away from my mother. She had become downright mean! All she cares about is Maddie! Maddie this Maddie that, UGH! It's so unfair! I had decided to just go to bed when the iPad screen lit up. James was facetiming! I smoothed my hair and accepted the call.
"Hey!" I squealed. Woah. That came out a lot higher than I meant to. Why am I so nervous?
"Hey." He answered back to me, glancing downward.
"Whatsup?" I asked, cocking my head. I was wondering why he called at 11 pm!
"I was just wondering if you wanna meet me at Paradise Smoothie tomorrow?" He questioned.
I opened my mouth to reply, but then I heard a loud bang on my door.
"MACKENZIE FRANCES ZIEGLER!" My mother's threatening voice roared. My frightened eyes flickered to the camera. James stared back at me confused.
"I'll be there." I whispered so that my mom wouldn't hear.
