James's POV

My head was pounding, my palms sweaty, and my breaths are sharp and fast. I push through the weak blur that is my vision and keep running. I have no idea where I'm going, but I just follow the screams, surging farther into the deep forest. Then I see it.

A disgusting little wooden building comes in to my line of sight and I hear faint sobbing. I push myself as hard as I can, my feet thumping against the ground, chest burning.

"Ahhh! Stop! Please Stop!" I hear my Mackenzie scream."

"Mackenzie!" I shout, angry and frightened tears threatening to release themselves when I speak.

I see a dark surly figure appear in the window and I duck, pressing myself against the dirt ground and the wall of the building. I wait a couple seconds, unable to bear the tension but knowing I had to wait for Mackenzie's safety. I hear footsteps and then two girls conversing, obviously Mackenzie was one of them. I walk slowly over to the window, but they can't see me. Stupid tinted windows.

"Mackenzie, are, are you okay?" A girl gasps, her voice breaking.

"That was terrible. It should have been me," She continued, as I sucked in a breath, my stomach lurching from all the possibilities that the girl could have been talking about.

When I didn't hear a response from Kenzie, frightened, I picked up a large rock and rose my arm to smash the window, hoping I didn't hurt either of them.

On my first try the rock didn't do anything except spark confused whispers from the girls. The second try the rock penetrated the glass, provoking screams and a surge of my adrenaline.

"James?" Mackenzie said, clearly disoriented.

"Kenzie, everything's alright. Don't worry. I've come for you. Please come with me."

Kenzie turned to the other girl.

"Wait, you see him too, right?" She asked.

"Yeah," She told Mackenzie.

"Please help us before he comes back!" She shouted, leaning over Mackenzie.

Quickly, I slid through the window, but a big piece of jagged glass split my leg open. I started to get blood everywhere, but I didn't care. I was closer to her than I'd been for almost an entire month it almost didn't seem real. I looked around intent on finding a key to release them from the chains.
