James' POV:
I'm still sitting here, sulking. I haven't come out of my room in days. Why won't Kenzie answer me? Why won't she even acknowledge that I exist? I haven't gone to school, haven't even bothered to brush my teeth or go to dance. Finally when I was watching prank videos on Youtube, my earbuds decided to break on me. I had another pair downstairs but that would mean possible interaction with my parents. I decided to risk it. Youtube was the only thing that could distract me from Mackenzie. I quietly went down the stairwell and peered around the wall. Great. My parents were sitting in the living room watching a TV show.
I just kept going, acting like everything was normal when my mom jumped up, eager to have a conversation.
"Hey honey!" She said overenthusiastically.
"Hey," I muttered, still walking to the kitchen.
"Wanna play a card game with us?" She asked perkily, following me around.
"No. I don't want to play a stupid card game or talk to you! I'm just getting my earbuds so leave me alone!" I shouted, but then felt bad once my mom's face turned to sadness.
"Honey, look. I know Mackenzie's disappearance is very hard on you, but that gives you no reason to-"
"Wait, disappearance, what are you talking about?" I asked confused.
"James, stop this. Denial is not healthy for you." Mom glared.
"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MOM!" I shouted.
My mom opened her mouth again- probably to argue with me again but dad cut her off.
"Lisa, just listen. What is it son," He asked me. "Do you honestly not know?" Dad said, for once being calmer that mom.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said.
"Well then why have you been isolating yourself in that room of yours huh?" Mom asked with disgust.
"Lisa." My dad warned.
"Well, why have you been cooping yourself up in your room then?" Dad asked.
I took a step away from my mom.
"Because Mackenzie's not answering my messages or calls and she won't even speak to me." I said angrily.
"I don't get why girls can turn from perfect to stupid so quickly. She doesn't get that she's breaking my heart. " I said.
"Son, Mackenzie isn't ignoring you," Dad gulped.
"She's been kidnapped." I stood in shock trying to process my emotions, wide-eyed.
"She's been gone for a week and a half. Nobody can find her." Mom said, but what angered me was that she didn't even care.
"What is wrong with you, mom! Why don't you even care! What did she ever do to you!?" I shouted.
"James, I'm just not very fond of that girl. Her sister thinks she's all that, and she always has her little fingernails done, and she's just not my type. She's not good for you." Mom said snootily.
"You don't understand! She's beautiful and Mackenzie is the best thing that's ever happened to me! You're not one to talk! You're the worst mother ever so just shut up! Just shut up!" I screamed, dashing out the door.
"HEY!" My dad yelled and tried to grab me by my shirt but I was gone.
I was going to find her. I had to.
