James's POV
I was searching frantically for a key to release Mackenzie and the other girl from the chains when my eyes landed on a pair of jeans lying in the corner. My gut instinct told me to check the pockets. I wrinkled my nose from the smell of gross cologne and cigarette smoke.
My eyes lit up as I grasped a small brass key in the back pocket and started to scramble towards them.
But that's when I heard the heavy footsteps.
And saw the shotgun,
Which was pointed toward Kenzie.
