261 22 2

he stood,
over the mere,
and within the depths of blue,
he descried another world-
a world where he belonged,
a world that he knew was awaiting him
a world he would build himself

he took one step forward,
and he was ready-
to lift his feet off the ground,
and let go of it all;
every memory, every tear, every smile,
he was willing to forget everything

the cold wind kissed his cheek,
one more step,
and the sound of his hammering heart
would fade into the ether
but, the thought of her crossed his mind;
his breath against her skin,
her voice that soothed his heart,
his hand holding onto hers

beyond everything, his demons
ripped him apart from within,
she would be okay, he thought
she would be alright, he believed
this was the only thing left to do-
she loved him,
and he loved her;
it was the only thing his heart was fit to do

to have been loved, and to have loved;
he had already gotten all he ever deserved.

he lifted his feet off the ground,
and let himself fall into the mere,
he felt nothing at all-
even the pain was a numbing feeling;
he was finally free of all the woes

he ceased to exist,
his heart stopped beating,
he was no longer breathing.

he was wonderful,
but he and the world, forbye her,
failed to see,
he was lovely,
and he would always be.
