chapter 99

It took everything in me not to call Simon and go off on him. I couldn’t believe that he knew Krista knew how to crack the Chip somehow, let alone could I believe that he actually was keeping her safe because she knew how. I knew my family was fuck from the moment the shit with Ed hit the fan, but now, now my little family that I knew about were passed fucked. We we’re so fucked that I’m pretty sure that going to therapy was something that wasn’t going to help anything, anytime soon.

After my outburst with Krista the boys thought it would be safer to take the road to New York, just in case there was wind that we were there. Liam, and Jesy took the first few states we drove past and Louis took the ones after. Once we stopped for gas in Pennsylvania, miles away from the UNI, Harry and I took the next shift, since Max was still asleep.

“Going in for coffee, you want anything?” asked Harry as he switch places with Louis.

“Coffee, and something  with a shit load of sugar please.” I say as I pull my hoodie over my head.

“Alright.” He says as he walks into the gas station.

Wiping my eyes I climbed into the driver’s seat as I pulled out my dad’s journal. As soon as Louis and Liam settled into the backseat they went straight to sleep, echoing the already nosy soft snores that echoed in the truck. Glancing up towards the gas station I watched Harry walk from aisle to aisle grabbing different snacks and I shook my head. Opening my dad’s journal I thumb to a section where my dad wrote random things down about a job he was working. As I sat reading, it shocked me on just how much of a second life my dad had away from home. He wasn’t cheating on my adoptive mom but he sure wasn’t going to work in an office like I thought he was. Drifting away in my thoughts for a moment, I jumped at the sound of someone tapping on the rear of the car. Glancing in the side mirror Harry pointed towards the gas tank and I pressed the button to pop it opened. Returning to the journal I finished up the page as I place a picture of me, my dad, and Max from when we were little back in as its bookmark. I leaned my head on the steering wheel as Harry climbed in.

“Coffee smelt burnt, so I made you tea.” Says Harry as he hands me a cup, “Not my best cup, but it’s something.”

Taking a sip I let the hot liquid flow down my throat as I smiled, “It’s perfect. I just needed something to wake me up.”

He nodded as he closed his door, “You sure you don’t want me to drive.”

“Positive.” Turning on the ignition I pulled out of the gas station and hopped back on the freeway. I drove some miles before I said,
“So this friend of Niall, can we trust him?”

“Yeah, Niall has kept in contact with him over the past few years. He’s actually how we found you.”

“What do you mean; ‘how we found you’ I thought Simon sent you.”

“He did, but you and Max tended to stay off the radar before so Niall made a call.”

I shook my head as I drummed on the steering wheel with my thumb.

“I still can’t believe that you 6 were hired to ‘protect me’ like this shit is beyond crazy.”

“Still not settling in?”

“No and honestly I don’t think that it will ever completely settle in.”

“Don’t worry it will, sooner than later just watch.”

I smiled as I took a sip of tea.

“So has your nightmares eased yet?” ask Harry as he broke a piece of his sticky bun and hands it to me.
