"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Easton screamed. We walked back to our room, and I had to explain to the principle that I was in another roommate's room watching tv, and I fell asleep, the roommate gone. The principle bought my story, but Easton was wise, he knew there was more to the story and that it wasn't just anybody. "You went inside Asher's room. Asher. Do you know who that is?"

A leader in a gang that he and his other gang members want me to join.

"No, but you're going to tell me," I said and sat down on my bed.

"He's in a gang. They don't have a name, but a few people call them the Six Psychopaths. Asher is their leader, and the other five are his puppets. The one you saw with the bandages, his name is Pierce, and his roommate is Nixon. They are both in whatever they are in. It's stupid and childish of what they are doing."

I was honestly confused about the way Easton was talking about them now. He sounded like they were a joke, that the gang was wasting their time.

"Weren't you afraid of them a few weeks ago?" I asked and rubbed my hands together. It was freezing tonight. I pulled my sleeves down to my hands and blew hot air in my hands. It wasn't freezing where I could see my breath, but it had my nose cold, colder than it usually is.

Easton must have noticed that I was shaking, I didn't realize that honestly, and sat next to me, slung his arm around my shoulders and pulled me toward him. I didn't question or complained about it.

What Easton didn't know was I get sick easily. I hated that my immune system was weak as hell. It was my "mother's" fault that she left me outside in the cold with no blanket, but she had time to leave in a basket. I'm surprised she didn't leave me in a garbage bag. I guess she didn't know that New York could get cold or some shit.

"Damn it, Jasper, you're shaking like crazy," Easton exclaimed. "Here, wear my sweater, and I'll warm you up."

I listened to him and put his sweater on me. I leaned myself closer to him and slowly closed my eyes. I felt Easton's warm hands move up and down on my arms and back. I parted my lips and mumbled, "thank you."

He stopped moving for a second and then returned his movements.

"Oh yeah, you're welcome, Jasper," he stammered. I opened my eyes and looked up, his cheeks, ears, and nose were rosy, and he was biting his lip nervously.

"Are you okay?" I said.

"Oh yeah." His neck turned red too.

"Liar."

He shook his head, but I saw right through him. I was happy that he stopped talking about Asher and his gang. I didn't want to think about them anymore because they were strange, too strange for me to be anywhere near them. I shouldn't judge, my Ma said it's rude and Miles did it a couple of times to me, but something about them made me comfortable in the most uncomfortable way.

It was mostly Pierce and Nixon. Junior reminded me of a child that listened to his father, Asher, and Dario didn't seem too bad, for now, but Easton said six. Who was the last one?

Easton jumped when someone knocked on our door. He glanced at me before he let go of me and went to the door. I was going to lay down when Easton let the person who knocked inside. He had short hair, brown eyes, tall brown-skinned that made me the thought of Pa when he was younger. Of course, they looked nothing alike, but in their eyes, that showed a deep concern that made my heart beat rapidly. Why was he concerned? Who was this guy?

"Sorry to interrupt, but you're Jasper, right? Miles said you were in this room."

The mentioned of Miles made me scoff. "What the hell does he want?"

He looked taken back by my question. "What makes you think I'm here about Miles?"

"Because you wouldn't care how my day was, you're here about Miles."

"Yes, because I'm his friend, Dayton."

Dayton

"You're his—"

"And I'm his roommate too." He sighed. "I wanted to know if you knew where Miles was. I haven't seen him all day."

That was strange. Easton hasn't seen me all day until around ten, and the same thing was happening to Miles, and his roommate, Dayton, was looking for him. I could t help but felt sorry strike in me. Ma told me to watch him, and I haven't been watching him. Never come around. There was a reason why I haven't been watching him, but I had to, for the sake of Ma. She would be disappointed in me.

"When was the last time you saw him?"

Dayton squinted his eyes and frowned. "I think around 3 or 4. I don't know the exact time, but I know for sure he didn't go to a party."

"How do you know that?"

"No one's having a party this week. It's almost mid-terms," Easton answered.

"Shit already?" I asked. Easton nodded, and I went back to Dayton. "Well, do you know any of his favorite places in this building?"

"Um, he likes going to the roof," Dayton said.

"Have you checked there?"

"No, it's locked on Wednesdays."

I checked my phone, and it was past midnight. I showed him the time. "Not anymore."

We left the room and quickly walked to the roof. Easton and I followed Dayton, but we had to dodge a couple of security guards that would check the halls to see if anyone was out. Since it was past midnight, they would ask us where were are going and for our IDs, and that moment I didn't want to be stopped by ridiculous questions. We turned a corner and faced a metal door. Dayton pushed it opened, and a gush of wind hit us.

Before Dayton could say anything, I walked passed him and stopped at what I saw. Miles was sitting on a chair and a masked person pointing a gun behind his head. A gasp echoed next to me, and I turned to see two other guys. I couldn't see them that well, but in the moonlight, I saw one of them have two different eye colors.

"Jasper!" Miles shouted. I looked back at Miles and rushed towards him only to be stopped by the gun pointed to me. I tried to think of all the enemies that Miles had made, but I couldn't find one. It was mostly girls that hated him for what he did, and most of his friends were guys. Who was behind that mask?

The masked person pointed the gun back at Miles, and I could see that Miles had dried tears on his cheeks.

"He's here what else do you want?" Miles spat.

The masked person adjusted his hoodie and clicked the gun. Miles visibly relaxed and sighed; his eyes moved from staring at the ground to mine. It puzzled me how calm Miles was. Wasn't he afraid? "Tell mom and dad I love them," he said softly.

"Wait, Miles—!"

Bang!

What happened to no reaction? What happened to being a "robot"? What happened to "not living, just surviving"? All of that was thrown out the window when I saw Miles drop to his side.

Every fiber in my body was frozen.

My mind went blank. My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. I heard the sound of screaming and someone struggling. Why did this person kill Miles? What reason was for all of this? Why him?

"Miles!" I screamed.
