Miles started to act weird. He would come in my room and ask me if I was alright or if I wanted food. I told him no because it was weird him being nice but I wasn't dumb. He was acting this way because of what happened to me. If none of this happened, he would still act the same and treat me like I'm nothing. You could say I was pushing him away but he did the same ti me when we were in college. But his attitude completely changed. I over heard him talking to his home town friends and they asked him if he wanted to go to a party. "Nah, I gotta watch my little brother. Maybe next time?"
He nodded at whatever his friend was saying and then hang up. A few days later, They called again and asked him if he wanted to go but he declined using the same excuse—I gotta watch my little brother. Brother. He doesn't call me step or sibling anymore. But that won't stop me.
"Hey Jasper," Miles said as he stood up quickly and sent me a small smile.
I furrowed my eyebrows and looked around. "Um, hi."
"Do you want to chill? You must be hungry since mom and dad didn't leave us any food." He chuckled and looked at the kitchen. He looked back at me and I gave him puzzled look.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?" Miles said.
"Why are you acting like you care when you don't? You haven't cared since I came to this house."
Miles sighed. "Jasper I know I haven't been the best brother but just know that I want you to stay here."
"Bullshit. You only want me to stay because if you get in trouble, you'll have someone to blame it on and it's not me. At least not anymore," I snapped and turned to walk away but Miles grabbed me.
"You're my little brother, okay? I did want you to leave but you're the only who deals with my bullshit."
I yanked him off me. "I don't deal with your bullshit. I don't care what you do as long you're alive."
I was going to leave again when Miles voiced stopped me. "I'm sorry for what I did. I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry for making you feel like complete shit when I should have treated you like an annoying little brother, because you are an annoying little brother, my annoying little brother." I heard him sigh. "And I know I told you that guys shouldn't do this or that but fuck that."
I didn't turn around. I let him finish his speech. I wanted him to shut up because no matter how much I hated what he did, he meant something to me. "Do you want to know my weakness? It's you, okay? It's family. I wanted you out of this house the minute I met you but after a while I would come home from school to see if you're still here because mom and dad aren't the only ones who wants you here."
I slowly turned around and what I saw completely shocked me. Miles, the playboy, party animal, prankster douche bag was in front of me with blood shot eyes, red face and trembling lips. He was crying. I scrunched my eyebrows and before I could say anything, Miles tackled me in a hug and buried his face on my chest.
"Big brothers can't always be strong."
Was I leaving because they kept a secret from me this long? Yes. Was I angry? Fuck yes. Florence and Raiden may not be my biological parents and Miles may not be my biological brother but they were a family, my family. Some people let them go or keep them. "Maybe we can play that game you've been talking about?" I asked and looked at him.
He lifted up his head and frowned. "What game? Most of my games are one player."
I rolled my eyes. "I know that but I heard you talking about Watch Dogs 2. A couple of cheats codes wouldn't hurt."
