New Message!
A smile appeared on my face as I read Skyler's message.
Hey, Jasper! Miles gave me your phone number for emergencies because he thinks I'm your personal nurse, and in all honesty, I think he has a crush on me--not that I'm complaining. Sorry, I'm rambling, but I hope everything is okay, and I miss you so much! I don't see Pierce or his friends anymore. I wondered what happened to them. Remember when we were supposed to get lunch? Yeah, me too, but you left, leaving me here and having to deal with immature adults.
Anyway, call me when you get this message. Don't leave me on R!
The people that only knew about the case was the principal and the board of education. They didn't want anyone else to know what happened and act like nothing happened when six college students aren't in college anymore. In all honesty, people will start asking questions--not because they care how the gang feels but to hear more about the destruction they caused. Of course, Mr. Cole had to tell the school they lost a student. A funeral was happening this week. I decided not to go. Ma wanted me to pay my respect for the dead but I'll only pay my respect to the good people who have died, not someone who broke my bones, and heart, and beat my friends, thinking that there was love between us. Pa agreed that I shouldn't go either but to at least write to the parents. The truth hurts but they have to know.
I reread Skyler's message and answered her, telling her that I'm fine and that I miss her too. She was also the one who was in the dark and I would keep it that way. To me, she's the closest to being a normal best friend. She may not be there all the time but she was there when she knew I was hurt, physically and mentally.
"I hope you're texting about me," I looked up and saw Zaire staring at me with a small smile on his face. It's been three days and I couldn't help my feelings for him. It wasn't strong but it was there, a growing crush each passing second. I've gotten to know him better than my "friends" in three days.
I scoffed. "I don't have time for you."
Zaire leaned his shoulder on my bedroom door. "I know. We have two days and then I'm gone. I hope you enjoyed our dates."
My phone almost fell on the floor. "Dates?" I laughed loudly. "You mean, hanging out with Miles and Dayton. I never agreed to go on a date with you."
"But you don't mind going on one, with me."
I sighed. "What do you want?"
Zaire shrugged and started tapping his fingers on the wall. "I'm bored."
"Then play with your dick."
Zaire choked on his spit and his cheeks started to turn scarlet red. I don't think I can get tired of watching him blush. It was weird though. Zaire knew he was cocky and flirty but he only choose to do that until you caught him red handed and he would get timid—which doesn't fit his appearance. A twenty-year-old something with a "bad boy" aroma with tattoos was in front of me, blushing and being shy was not something I would see.
"You can't say that!" Zaire exclaimed.
"Oh, like you're any better. Remember when you talked about my ass in front of Miles, my brother? He was close to choking you."
His ears were red now. "I forgot they were there for a second."
In the past three days, Zaire has made me laugh, smile, and annoy the living shit out of me, but he genuinely, surprisingly, made me feel...content. I mentally rolled my eyes and sat up on my bed.
