The grandmother had a far away look while she finished her tale. "Your grandfather and I went to the same school in Kentucky, and our relationship stayed strong. He took over your grandfather's business, and I studied to be a vet."

She smiled, her smile sad. "Your grandfather proposed to me when we were both sophomores in college and got married six months later. We had your Aunt Caroline when we were Juniors, so I didn't go to vet school but finished my degree in business as well as therapy."

Julie took her mother's hand and squeezed. "You were a wonderful mother, Mom," she said, even though she knew that she had made it a heck a lot tougher on her.

Ella nodded her head. "I know," she said. She cleared her throat and blinked back tears. "Well, it is time for you two to go to bed. It is way past your bedtime.

The two kids groaned but their mother shushed them. "Good night, Grandma," they chorused before the children and the mother left.

The grandmother smiled and looked at the picture and sighed. Her blue eyes shone with love while she reached underneath the pillow and pulled out a well worn diary that her husband had given her just before he died.

Again, she touched the picture and kissed the picture. "You don't have to chase me anymore," she whispered before she closed her eyes.

And as the clock chimed midnight, the grandmother took her last breath and left this world to be with her husband in paradise.
