Early January

Edd's POV

Looking out my window this morning, I am taken back by how much snow had fallen last night. Although the local meteorologist predicted a maximum of a half inch, the snow appears to be at least a half foot of slick, heavy precipitation.

Reaching for my phone, I take note of the early time of "5:26" and a good morning text from Kevin. Hastily I respond back to Kevin, and start my preparation for the frozen tundra outside. Although school doesn't start until 7:30, I want to be early so I can study for my AP Philosophy test tomorrow.

Donning a thick anorak coat, and boots I trudged my way out to my vehicle. Nearly falling twice, I finally make it to my car unscathed  (surprisingly). Quickly sliding into the low cab of my car, I turn on the heat, blasting it as high as it will go. After brushing the heavy, compact snow off my car I am on my way to another tedious, un-enthralling day at school.

Kevin's Pov

Zoning out during class, I look out the window seeing winter's full, ugly wrath. Snow in Peach Creek is nothing like the delicate, picturesque stuff that Hallmark movies depict. It is mounds of white, heavy snow that creates  a hazardous wasteland surrounding us.

As my teacher passes by, she silently slips my graded test on my desk in front of me. My whole body tenses up, as this test reveals whether or not I graduate--It determines the shape of my and Edd's future in New York.

Staring at the test score I am taken back by my grade, the word "Pass" is circled on top of my sheet instead of a letter grade. Raising my hand, I signal the teacher over to see what she meant by it.

"Ms. you have seemed to forgot to put a letter grade on my test." I mumble, trying to avoid side glances from my peers.

"This test was either pass or fail Kevin, for your GED credit. And you passed." My teacher says, happiness lacing her high-pitched voice.

"I passed!" I said, a bit too loudly turning several heads in the classroom.  Before the teacher could share another word of congratulations, I run out of the class room eager to find Edd.

Finding my Dork didn't take long, I have naturally memorized his daily whereabouts since early on in our relationship. One thing I can depend  with Edd is he is a habitual being who loves routines.

Approaching him, I can tell he is startled and taken back from my presence. His eyes widen with concern, clearly wondering my reasoning for leaving class early.

"Kevin, aren't you supposed to be in Geometry?"

"Yes, but I couldn't wait to tell you the most wonderful news Edd--I passed the class, and earned my GED credit."

Revealing his toothy smile, he spills over with excitement for me. "I never doubted your abilities for a second Kevin."

"It is all thanks to you Edd." I muse.

"I can't take credit for any of this Kevin, you had the intelligence all along, you just needed a little push in the right direction."

Leaning down, I position my lips in their rightful place on his supple, full kisser. Unlike our past embraces, something is different about the way Edd kisses me back. Instead of excitement and happiness, anxiety weighs on his lips. Once again I am left to wonder what this subtle sign means, there can't possibly be trouble in paradise--right?
