Kevin's Pov

It is 7:09--and the only thought running through my mind is "where is Edd?". I knew he was going to be nervous to meet my father, but not to the extent of being fashionably late.

"Are you coming, Dork?" I quickly text him, hoping he replies curtly.

"Sorry had a breakdown, leaving now. I hope your dad likes Jell-o."

Edd's POV

Arriving at Kevin's house, I swear the butterflies in my stomach have turned into elephants. I am officially 21 minutes late to dinner, something that is simply unheard of for me--punctuality is my middle name after all.

Knocking the door, I am briskly greeted by Kevin.

"Hello Dork." He says, kissing near the star ring he gave me for Christmas.

"Hello Kevin, sorry for being tardy."

"Don't be, I am just glad  you were able to make it."

Kevin then takes my hand, leading me towards a spacious dining area, and sitting head of the table is Mr. Blakely--more intimidating than I had even expected.

"Dad, this is Edd. Edd, this is my father."

"Salutations, Mr. Blakely!" I say a bit too enthusiastically, shaking the jell-o dessert for emphasis.

"Charmed i'm sure."

If my awkward gesture is any indication of how tonight's festivities will go, i'll be a dead-man before dessert.

Kevin's Pov

"So tell me Edd, how'd you get my son to play for your team." My father says, almost reflexively I kick him underneath the table. We are only ten minutes into dinner, and he has said more inappropriate than appropriate things.

"Ignore him." I whisper, reassuring Edd.

"Kevin has told me all about you Edd, what is it again you will be studying next year?"

"My declared major is a Biomolecular Chemistry, with an emphasis in cancer genomics." Edd says without hesitation.

"Holy shit, are you some kind of Einstein?"

"I told you Edd is very intelligent, he's been helping me pass Geometry." I gush, hopefully silencing my father's constant interjections.

Dinner soon falls into an awkward silence, that no one objects to. Quietness is far better than bombardment and verbal diarrhea.

Although tensions appear to rising between my father and I, Edd is unbothered by the situation and continues to compliment him on the meal.

"This marinade is divine Mr. Blakely! You have a great taste in spices sir."

"Uhhh, thanks. I think." Dad says, clearly perturbed.

I cannot help but smile at my Dork, he is only person I've ever met who can make a grown man uncomfortable with kindness.

Edd's POV

"Do you think he liked me?" I ask, reiterating the same question that's been on my lips since my arrival to the Blakely's abode.

"How could he not? You practically killed him with kindness Dork!"

"You will tell him my compliments were indeed sincere, won't you Kevin?"

"Of course." He replies, kissing me one final goodnight.

The whole drive home, I am left anxiously wondering if Kevin's father actually liked me. Perhaps the jell-o was a bit too much? Did I come across boasting? Was I overly affectionate towards Kevin?

These are all questions running rampant through my mind---things that I am sure Kevin will validate in the morning.

Bless him for putting up with me.
