Even in a storm, if you took time off worrying about yourself, and looked or felt hard enough, it ain't as bad as you had imagined.
The dining hall was organised in such a way that each grade had their specific regions for eating. This had been done to avoid bullying of freshers and different classes and food time was good time ever in school despite meal being served.
There was a gloomy atmosphere in the hall as the girls ate supper because a storm was coming.
Mya used to hate this season when it rained alot and the sun never came out. She would be homesick because it was the time she thought about home alot and missed the younger brother.
She would in those days sit isolated and would be so lost in herself that if you hadn't been with her before you would take her for an innocent, reserved, quiet girl. Her friends were used to her weird moods and never used to bother her.
She sat alone in the grade two corner and ate her food. She also never used to understand the feeling but every time it rained, she would feel like a new being and used to take this time most to review her life and other times, imagine a whole new life with her as a new being. In such times, her diary was her best friend.
She used to tell her friends that she was almost like a were wolf and this was her full moon only that for her it was the period she felt closest to her inner self and instead of being a monster, she would only be more human.
She had been seated musing for some time to get back to reality when there was noise in the hall. Looking around, there was no power and the place was dark. While she wanted to keep alone, the chaotic side of her won and she started moving around in darkness, slapping people and hiding , and doing mostly stupid stunts on people.
It lasted around 7 minutes till the school generator was running. Some teachers came to the hall and urged them to eat up and go for night preps. Preps started as usual but after like 30 minutes of settling in, the storm came.
It rained heavily. The students huddled together in groups and started telling stories and talking about random things. Mya sat in the corner with a group of girls, po, shar, sarah, mercy, Grace, Marvis, Precious, Vivian, and Racheal.
Do you know what happened today in the DH? Mya jazzed.
This babe in the French club, the one in grade five that speaks good french.. Was burnt.
"What"some one exclaimed, "Mya you are lying. This one the girls usually call Càva?? "
"Why would i?Càva really got burnt. " Mya continued "apparently, she was standing by the table serving herself soup when power chucked. Some girls, i guess from a different class(rumour has it grade two)had no soup so they rushed to the grade five table to tap some and crowded the table in the process. Fighting for gap, one of the girls got hold of Càva's hand and used it to stir the soup in the dish. "
"What? Babe that's bloody. Omg. Those dishes are big. "
The girls hadn't realised that the rain had decreased and it was drizzling now. The headmistress herself was moving around telling the girls to go to bed because a bigger storm was coming.
Mya was in bed already and shouting in dorm, and cracking jokes when she saw Racheal come.
"Hey, thought you would be in your dorm sleeping. The generator is almost getting switched off. "
"Couldn't sleep. So i thought i would come for some jazz since your dorm is near."Racheal replied.
Ok. Tell me a movie.
Racheal joined Mya in bed and told Mya a movie:the seat filler. Mya loved movies and had a strong imagination in that she would be like some one who watched the real movie even when it had just been narrated to her. She ended up sleeping off as Racheal was still jazzing her.
She woke up to noise in the room only to find the head prefect standing by her bedside looking down on her. "Hello lesbian" the head girl said.
"I'm not lesbian"Mya said only to see Racheal seated miserably and then realisation hit her. She had shared the bed with Racheal.
"News flash..!! Girls are not supposed to sleep together here. Its in the rules manual". The head girl continued.
"Newsflash my foot. Im no damn lesbian. "
"You will explain that to the disciplinary committee" the head girl marched away saying.
Mya leant back on her pillow muttering."i knew such a jolly mood in a stormy season only meant danger. I felt it. Jeez. Im done for. "
