~Alana's pov~

Almost as soon as I had hung up with Nellie, there was a knock at the door. I opened it, and there stood Ms. Evalyn. "Come," she said,"I need you in my office." And so I went. When I walked in, there was Dan, resting his head on Phils shoulder. They were so perfect together, like butter on toast. As soon as I sat down, Ms. Evalyn said, "Alright then, let's get down to business." Without thinking, I sang under my breath, "To defeat the huns!" Phil looked at me, and then burst out laughing. Which of course got me started, and Dan said, chocking on laughter, " I don't know what we're laughing about, I'm just laughing cause you are!" Of course I only laughed harder then, and Ms. Evalyn even chuckled. After that all happened, Ms. Evalyn said "Well then, Alana, Mr. Howell and Mr. Lester would like to adopt you, that's why I brought you here." I couldn't say anything, I was so shocked and happy! Phil apparently took this to mean I didn't want to, and said, "If you don't want to, that's o-" but at that moment I got my voice back: "Are you kidding! Of course I want to! Omigoshomigoshomigosh!" "I guess that's a yes then!" Dan ruffled my hair, and I didn't even mind! I was too excited! "Okay then, I'll go get the forms!" Ms. Evalyn left the room, and suddenly I had a horrid thought. "You're serious right? You're not joking?" Dan put his arm around me, and squeezed me so tight I thought my face folded in. "Of course we're serious, we already love you like you're our daughter, so now you can really be our daughter!" Again, I was speechless. "Oh... wow! Thank you so much! You guys are the best!" They really were! They fucking rocked. And now they were my dads! I moved towards Phil and hugged him, then Dan again. Then I squealed and wiggled in my seat until Ms. Evalyn came back with a stack of papers and file (presumably mine).

It was all legal shit, mostly stuff only Dan and Phil had to sign, for quite obvious reasons. There was one thing though, at Emerson Brooks there was the option to sign a "Family certificate", just for shizzles. So we did, and it was pretty funny, because at first Phil signed in the wrong spot, so it would've been me and Dan adopting Phil! But we got a new one and signed it properly. Then we had to go through my files, which had stuff like my medical records, dental records, and optometrists records, because, no, my glasses aren't for looks, I actually need them to see. It took a few hours to do everything, but we had it done by the end of the day, and at one point Ms. Evalyn had me run and get lemonade for everybody. But it was all set in stone (well, paper). Ms. Evalyn faxed the papers to some big government(?) people, and Dan and Phil were going to come pick me up tomorrow after lunch, so I would have enough time to say a proper goodbye to everyone. I said goodbye to Dan and- er, sorry, my dads (eeek!) and walked them outside. "Goodbye my Lana-banana!" said Phil. "What?" I asked. "Oh, I thought since I'm your dad now I should give you a stupid dad-type nickname!" I laughed, and Dan rolled his eyes, "Oh god phil." I hugged him again, "I love it." I said, looking up into his eyes. He kissed my forehead and bopped me on the nose. "Boop!" "Oh my god Phil, I'm 14, not 4!" He laughed, and Dan rolled his eyes again, while side hugging me. "Bye!" I said as I headed back inside, and they both waved back.

Heading upstairs, I suddenly realized this would mean leaving all my friends here behind. Of course I could think still see them on visiting day, and text and call them, but it just wouldn't be the same. I had lived with them for one of the hardest parts of my life. They were all there. I would miss them. When I opened the door, the were all gone, and room was empty. They were probably next door, and when I knocked, Emma opened it, and sure enough they were all there. "Where did you go?" asked Marie, "You missed dinner!" I shuffled my feet, looking at the floor. "I have some happysad news." "What? Tell us!" Violet bounced up and down on Grace's bed, who smacked her down. "You should probably sit down for this." I said, and Eden retorted; "We are sitting down, just tell us you spork!" "Okay, sooooooooooo I'mgetttingadoptedbydanandphilanditsalreadyofficialtheresnothingicando!" There was a moment of stunned silence, and then Emma said;"That's awesome!" "Really? You guys aren't mad I'm leaving?" "Of course we'll miss you, but it's obviously something you're excited about, so we can't get mad." Sara said. "Yeah," Raina added, "Plus you come see us at visiting, and we can call and text. We don't live in the dark ages you know." I smiled at them, and Alison yelled "Group Hug!" and they all tackled me with love. It was going to be fine.

Of course, leaving meant I had to pack all my stuff, which wasn't much, but each girl gave me something to remember them. There was a box for my clothes (not much because uniforms, duh), a box with random shit like my toilet-trees (toiletries) and my hair stuff. The third box was filled with just books. Lots of books. The last box was the most special. At the bottom sat my laptop and speakers, wires, then my art supplies, sketchbooks, and at the top sat all my goodbye gifts. They had all signed a card. From Eden there was a drawing of me, Dan, and Phil, which she had done in like an hour(Impressive!). From Marie there was a polaroid of the time we all cut up a bunch of paper and had a confetti party. Violet gave me a twin of her favorite bracelet, and Tanya wrote me a story. Sara wrote a fucking depressing poem, but that's just how she was. Alison and Grace had choreographed a dance, which, to be fair, did not go into the box, but Marie took another picture. From Raina there was a signed picture of herself, which read, "Xx, Raina" And from Emma there was just a small heartfelt letter, which I did not read out loud, because I didn't want to embarrass her.

When the morning came, I was woke up by Eden, because there was a promise made the night before that whoever was awake first woke up everyone else. I ran next door in my pyjamas to wake them up, and we all came back, sitting on the beds, and talked about our pasts, presents, and futures. For the foreseeable future I would live with my new dads, but what after that? Our conversation was filled with 'what if?'s from everyone, and eventually Alison said, "This is too depressing. Let's go have breakfast!" So we did, and we all had bowls of Shreddies. Apparently, the news had spread, and almost the whole orphanage knew. All through breakfast I was interrupted by girls coming up to me to say goodbye. Lunch was no better, and I just gave up and let everyone pester me. After lunch I spent some time in the lounge with just the girls, and when Ms. Evalyn came to find me, I was mentally prepared. Sort of. Okay, not really, but I was excited.
