Warning: FEELS AHEAD
~Alana's pov~Over the next two weeks, I went on 3 more outings with Dan and Phil. Most were pretty much the same as the first, going for lunch, or drinks, and once, ice cream! Once though, we were crossing the road, and I stopped at the edge, thinking I was close enough to the pavement. Apparently I wasn't, because mid-sentence Dan yelled, "OH MY GOD!" And Phil just grabbed my arm forcefully, but gently, and pulled me on to the pavement just as a car zoomed past. "Are you okay?" Phil asked me, pulling me into a hug. All I could do was nod and hug him back. He smelled sweet, like vanilla, and then I realized that nobody had watched out for me that way in so long, as cheesy as that sounds. Dan stood there, breathing heavily, his hand on his heart, until I looked up at him, and he came over and wrapped his arms around the both of us, and we just stood there, on the pavement, getting lots of strange looks from strangers (A/N: guess that's why they're called strangers haha! No? I'll stop). When we finally pulled apart, I knew I just had to go live with them. Or at least, keep in touch!
That was the last outing I went on with them, and that day right when I got home and before I was called downstairs, I called Nellie in private, deciding only to tell her, it was a kinda personal thing that I knew she would understand. She said, "Lanie, I really hope that they adopt you, they sound amazing and I really think you will be the best family. I miss you so much! I just want you to be happy!"
"I miss you too N, but I don't know how to convince someone to adopt me, that seems kinda rude." "So don't, just see where it goes, and hopefully they will!" I hoped she was right.~Dan's pov~
Over the weeks, I had really grown to love Alana like she was already my daughter. On the Saturday we decided to adopt her, we crossed the road, but she wasn't close enough to the pavement. Phil was standing in between us, and all I could do was yell "OH MY GOD!" Luckily, Phil pulled her towards him by the arm, and she was okay. My heart was racing as I stood there, almost frozen, while Phil pulled Alana into his arms. When Alana looked up at me, my heart melted at her expression. It was a mixture of panic and relief, and I couldn't help it, I went over and joined the hug party. I think that pretty much sealed the deal for us.
~Phil's pov~
(A/N: sorry about so many different pov's this chapter, but this is a really critical moment in the plot and I wanted everyones sides in one chapter)I knew at that exact moment that this was my daughter (er, sorry Dan, our).
We had just been for ice cream, and after throwing our napkins away, we stood up and started down the pavement. We crossed the street, and Alana paused to say something. I was so focused on what she was saying, I didn't notice that she wasn't close enough to the pavement. Clearly Dan did though, as he yelled "OH MY GOD!" At that moment everything went in slow motion. You know how in films when something really dramatic happens and they slow it down? That's how it was in my head. I grabbed Alana's arm and pulled her closer and onto the pavement, just before the car went past. That's when everything turned normal again, and all I could do was hug her and ask if she was alright. She nodded, still clinging onto my jacket as I squeezed her tight. That was when I knew. Dan came over and hugged us both, all while people on the street gave us weird looks. I didn't mind. This was going to be our little family. When we got back to the orphanage, We both hugged her goodbye, and when she left, I looked at Dan, right in those beautiful chocolate eyes, and I knew he felt the same. "Should we?" He asked, almost teasing. He knew the answer. "Of course!" I said, and knocked on the assistant managers door. A man, about in his late 30's, probably the secretary, answered. "Yes?" "Hi, is the assistant manager here?" Dan asked. "Of course. Right this way." He said, leading us into the same room as when we first wanted to take Alana for lunch.
"Oh, Hello Mr. Lester, Mr. Howell. How can I help you?" Before Dan spoke, I said; "We'd like to adopt Alana." Dan nodded. "Alright then, let me go get her files, and her, and I'll be right back!" Said Evalyn. When she was gone I put my arm around Dan and kissed him on the top of his head when he rested it on my shoulder. "You know what this means, right Dan?" "What?" "We're going to be a family." "I know " he said. "No, I mean, like really think about it." I let him do so, and then, "Oh my god. We're a family. A real family. Wow." I chuckled at his realization, and rested my head on top of his. Just then, Alana walked into the room, and Dan moved one seat over, so she could sit in the middle. "Alright then, let's get down to business." Said Evalyn, and I heard Alana whisper-sing, oh so quietly, "to defeat the huns!" And I couldn't help it. I started laughing, and pretty soon Alana let out a giggle, and Dan, mid laughter, said, "I don't know what we're laughing about, I'm just laughing cause you are!" That set Alana into a whole new fit of giggles, and even Evalyn smiled. When we had all gotten our laughs out, Evalyn said, "well then, Alana, Mr. Howell and Mr. Lester would like to adopt you, that's why I brought you here. Alana sat there, speechless, and for a second my stomach churned. "If you don't want to, that's o-" she cut me off. "Are you kidding! Of course I want to! Omigoshomigoshomigosh!" "I guess that's a yes then." Dan joked as he ruffled her hair. "Okay then, I'll go get the forms!" Said Evalyn as she left the room again. "You're serious right? You're not joking?" Alana asked us. "Of course we're serious,"Said Dan, "we already love you like you're our daughter, so now you can really be our daughter!" "Oh... Wow! Thank you so much! You guys are the best!" Alana wrapped her arms around me, and then Dan. Then she squealed and danced about in her seat. I smiled. That girl was the best.
A/N: I actually gave myself a bad case of the feels while writing this chapter, and I had to take a break. Im so weird.
