Suprises

Three years later

"Come on Eli" Matthew cried as he tugged on my arm.  "I want to get started before it gets hot."

"Maybe I would if I knew what I was doing." I told him with a pointed look.

"Nope! Nuh-uh not telling you" Matt said causing me to pout.

"Meanie"

"Love you too babe."  He told me.

After a couple more minutes of walking we were in the forest.

"What are we doing here?" I asked looking around in pure delight.

"We are going hiking." Matt told me pointing to the trail off to the left of me.  I smiled and stood on my tippy toes to give him a kiss.

"I love you" I told him my face glowing.  Then I pulled him back down for another passion filled kiss which he responded very eagerly to.

Finally I pulled away and said "Let's go!"

"Okay then" He said shaking his head at my antics.  I just grabbed his hand and towed him along besides me.

We walked along the trail for an hour and a half talking about what was going on in our lives.  I was starting my third year of college which Matt had encouraged me to try.  I was going to get a bachelor's degree and join law enforcement while Matt was becoming a teacher.

We crawled into Matt's beat up pick up truck and drove back to the house where he told me the second part of our date was set up.

"What is it" I asked looking up at him.

"I'm not going to tell you" He said amused that I was still trying.

I sighed and turned away from him as we pulled up to the house.  When I walked into the living room it had two little pillows on the ground each with a jar of marshmallows on top of it.  Matt walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist..

"Is that why it took you so long to come out to the car?" I asked him.

"Yes." He whispered in my ear.  "I had to set up for our marshmallow fight."  He kissed me then ran over to a jar.

I followed his lead and went to the opposite.  As I bent down to pick up some of mine my back got hit with marshmallows.

"Hey" I cried.  "No one told me we were starting."  With that I twisted around and hit Matt in the gut with a handful.

 About half way through my jar I felt something cold and hard in with my marshmallows but I didn't stop to see what it was I just launched them at Matt.

"Ow"  I heard him yell.  I looked at him and saw him clutch his eye.

"Are you okay?" I asked running over to him. 

"I'm fine"  He told me gently pushing away my hands.  Then he picked something up of the ground and knelt down.

"When I imagined this it wasn't quite like this."  He began motioning to his eye.  "But no matter.  What does matter is that I love you Eli and we're made for each other.  Eli will you marry me?"

I opened my mouth to answer him when the back door swung open. In walked Jordi,  Nina, Tori, and Luke all followed closely by their mates.

"Umm are we interrupting something" Nina asked eyeing Matt who was still kneeling and the marshmallows all around us.

"No not at all" Matt said standing up.

"Okay then." Jordi said completely oblivious as usual.

As everyone sat down I looked over at Matt who was raising an eyebrow at me silently asking id=f I had invited them over.  I shook my head and looked over at everyone seated at the dining room table.

"What are you guys doing here."  I asked.

After a minute Tori spoke up and said "Jordi and Nina said to come over and bring Marc because you wanted everyone to meet your mate Matt."

I turned to face them who smiled sheepishly and said 'WE were curious about your mate."

As we turned to more mundane topics I snuck behind Matt and whispered "The answer is yes be the way."
