I stared at her facial expression as she tried to process what she was going to say next. Expecting a scolding from her left me speechless at the words that left her mouth.

"Damn it, again with all the cute guys... it's just not fair!"

I look over at Shane before bursting into laughter causing some from him as well.

“He’s just a friend” I said getting off of Shane’s lap and off the couch standing up looking at her. Shane cleared his throat awkwardly as the room filled with silence again.

“So you think I’m cute? “ Shane spoke out looking at Perris with a charming smile.

It seemed he enjoyed pushing people’s buttons and seeing how they reacted.

Perris crossed her arms and rolled her eyes as she seemed familiar with boys like Shane, “Don’t flatter yourself beanie boy“ she spat.

“Whoa, remind me why you didn’t tell me about her?” Shane laughed turning his head to look at me with a smile.

Oh crap I forgot to introduce them one of the things I probably should have done in the first place.

“By the way Shane umm this is my friend Perris”  I said motioning a hand to her.

“Best friend “she corrected smirking at Shane with her gleaming blue eyes.

“And Perris this is Shane, my friend “ I emphasized the my friend part because I still knew she was thinking differently from the gleam in her eyes and looks she kept giving me.

“Can you excuse us for a minute” Perris said breaking the silence in the room and leading me into the kitchen by my wrist.

I was worried where this conversation was going, Perris was the type of girl to gossip and tends to not believe others.

“Alright tell me, how long have you been seeing each other” she spoke leaning against the fridge door.

“Perris I keep telling you he’s just a friend “ I replied.

“Just friends don’t cuddle like you two just were, I thought you were still caught up with this boy you met at the New Years party “she said.

I stayed silent thinking about Jc, I knew she was talking about him and to be honest talking about him made me think about him more and made my body ache even more.

“You like him still don’t you?” she said looking at me intently.

I stayed quiet, I really didn’t want to think about him anymore and I really just wanted to forget everything that happened between me and him. Though for some reason I could never get it out of my brain.

“So you are dating Shane! “she exclaimed.

“I am not! “ I said frustrated.

“Then why is he over here “she asked motioning at the living room entrance.

“Me and him were just talking about….stuff” I stuttered.

I didn’t want her to know I suddenly talked to Shane about this first, and not her. She had been my best friend since kindergarten and I guess she expected to be explained the stuff recently happening in my life I needed help with.

“Oh really? What kind of stuff, “she said crossing her arms un impressed with my response.

“Perris can we just talk about this later,“ I said turning to leave to kitchen only to be held back by her hand on my upper arm.

“why can’t you just tell me what’s going on “ she said.

“ I…I just can’t “ I replied slipping out of her grip and walking back into the living room to Shane who sat on the couch twiddling his thumbs as if trying to entertain himself.

Perris huffed and made her way through the living room past the two of us and out the door slamming it behind her.

Perhaps I hit a nerve? I didn’t mean to. For some reason I wasn’t ready to tell her everything that happened with Jc and how my new friendship with Shane was building.

“What was that all about?” he asked looking over from his eyes that previously were fixed onto the front door turning to meet mine.

“I don’t know…” I replied quietly feeling another sudden yet somehow subtle ache in my spine.

I wondered why when everything was starting to brighten up it just suddenly was darkened by the clouds that confused and made my brain lost.
