A pastel blue sheet of color is spread out above me as I tilt my head back to the sky. The blue hurts my eyes, but I continue to look, imagining what it would be like to soar across all that open space like a bird, with the wind whipping through my hair, and splashing on my face, just like water.

At this thought and image, one of my favorite lines of all time, sung by Regina Spektor, comes into my head.

“And the sea is just a wetter version of the skies.”

What if I could dive into the sky the way I dive into the sea? I would lose myself in the endless miles of blue and I would sleep on the clouds.

You see, the thing about the sky is that it can take you anywhere. Roads can’t do that. Not even oceans can do that. Only the sky has the ability to take you anywhere in the world that your heart desires. From the sky, you can go anywhere.

So, if I could dive into the sky, I would build myself a ship, and sail through the sky the way I sail through the sea. I would go everywhere and experience everything. I would become the epitome of inspiration.

And all it would take, is the sky.
