"What's up with that face?", Nathan sits back down on his chair, looking up at me with a wide smile. "Nothing.", I quickly turn around to face the wall, trying to hide the blush that burned on my cheeks. My hands rub against each other. Why is this feeling so awkward? My watch vibrates again, another message from Claire.
Sky? Are you still out? My mom can't pick you up and neither can your mom. I don't want you to be alone, so you either have to stay with Nathan or make him drive you to my place. Oh, wait, now that I think about it... You two should totally spend the rest of the day together. Don't be mad. I'll write him right away. Love you!
As I look up from the smallscreen, I see Nathan reading something on his phone before flashing me a grin. "I know.", sighing, I let myself fall on the bed, scratching my head roughly, staring at a happy Nathan. "So, should I take you home and watch you there or do you want to come to my place?", his green eyes search for something on my puzzled expression.
"I don't care, just... make it go away.", I whisper, hoping he didn't hear it. "Make what go away?", he seemed worried, like I was about to faint again, or something. "Never mind, it just slipped out."
We both get our bags and sign out from school, thanks to my mom, who already called them up. As we headed to the overloaded parking lot in front of the building, we both stayed silent, nobody wanted to say anything, so I just followed him though rows of cars, towards a black pickup, which happened to be his. I wasn't feeling all to comfortable driving with him, I know, I'm working myself up on this, but I can't drop the feeling of fear, which always accompanied me.
"We can put our stuff in the bed.", he took my bag and threw both of them in the back of the vehicle, getting in the driver seat, waiting for me to join.
I'm sitting in Nathan's car! And I have to say, it kinda smells like him. (That's probably very creepy for me to say)
"So, which place will it be? If you want to go to your house, you'll have to give me directions.", he starts the engine with a slight smile on his lips, looking in the back mirror as he backed out of the cramped parking lot. Funny, he never noticed that we're actually neighbors? "What directions? I live seven or eight houses next to yours. You didn't notice?" His eyes widen, and he looks at me for a split second. "Are you for real? We're neighbors?", I just couldn't help but laugh, his reaction was just too damn cute. My nervousness dropped a little and I felt more comfortable, being in his car with him. Alone. Without Claire.
"We met at the bus stop. That has to mean, we both live in the same area.", my smile vanishes, after remembering that Nathan I met before. The one with an angry glare. I haven't seen him mad since then, but it has only been a day, anyway. "Yeah, you're right, that should have been hint hint enough. So, your place it is. By the way, are you hungry?"
I noticed how he tried to change the subject, so I tagged along. I think he's still feeling pretty guilty after what had happened. "Actually I am. How about you?", his smile grew wider. "I went to Burger King while you were dancing with a princess in slumber land.", he started to laugh at my shocked expression, but than quickly adding a 'just kidding'. This boy... why is he here again? I sigh yet again and stare out of the window. Why am I here? But then again, I can't shake of this annoying grin on my face, neither can he.
The surroundings started to look more familiar and soon we pulled into our little neighborhood. I saw our house from the other end of the street, pointing at it without saying anything. In the corner of my eye I could see him nodding. He sped up a little, just to drive on our driveway, parking in front of our garage. The vibration stopped as he cut of the engine. Nathan gives me a smile before getting unbuckled and got out, so I did the same. Surprised about the sudden wave of unbalance I take a few steps back, bumping into someone standing behind me.
Arms wrap around me, pulling me closer to his warm chest. "Nathan, please don't hug me.", I whisper, surprised about how fast he reacted to let go of me. I walk away from him without turning around, knowing he'll be following anyway. Searching for my keys, I see him getting two bags out of the car. Unlocking the door with the key I had finally found in my pants pocket, we both step into the nice and cold house. The temperature outside, was way too high to begin with.
But my thoughts don't stay on the topic weather, they quickly rush over to the black haired boy walking behind me, as I lead the way upstairs. I'm nervous, since it's been quite a while I've had somebody over. And of course the fact that Nathan is about to enter my room.
