- RYON'S POV -
As soon as Sindri had entered her tent, everyone exchanged relieved glances. She didn't seem to suspect anything. Her senses were probably dimmed from all that time sleeping. Then came the sound we all had hoped never to hear.
"Ryon!" Sindri called in a sing-song voice. I looked around at the worried faces. If we were lucky, this wasn't about what had happened. I moved slowly to the enterance and hesitantly stepped inside. As a force of habit, I sat down in the chair I had spent long hours waiting in. Sindri watched me accusingly. I gulped.
She crossed her arms over her chest. "Spill." she demanded. I decided to play dumb.
"About what?" I asked. She raised an eyebrow.
"We both know what I'm talking about. I'm not stupid." There was a long moment of silence. Her knowing gaze finally made me cave. I sighed heavily.
"How did you figure it out?" I groaned. Sindri smiled.
"It was a combination of things, but mostly this." she said as she pulled back my sleeve. I winced as her hand brushed the fresh wound. She smiled apologetically. "How did it happen?"
"An old friend of yours wanted you, and I wouldn't get out of the way." I explained. Her eyes narrowed.
"Which friend?" she asked suspiciously.
"Some guy Markus knew. Tristan was pretty pissed when he saw him." Sindri's fists clenched as she realized who I was talking about.
"Farnoff." she growled. "I'm surprised he's still alive if he came so close to me." I gave her a puzzled look. She laughed. "I can kick his ass in my sleep." I found myself laughing along with her for a moment, hoping that my expression wouldn't give away anything. Sindri's happiness dried up.
"What happened?" she asked, immediatley seeing through my ruse. Damn. There wasn't any fooling this girl, was there? Knowing that she would find out anyway, I told her.
"He actually escaped with you." I admitted nervously. "And he got pretty far too, almost halfway to the capital." She stared at me in disbelief.
"My pack wouldn't have allowed it." she stated. Here it comes.
"They couldn't help." I said slowly. She gestured for me to go on. "They had been... er... caged." She shot up like an arrow.
"WHAT?!" she screamed. I scrambled away from her, knowing from her brother's tales how her temper would often get the better of her. Her voice became dangerously quiet. "Who made the order?"
"P-prince Tristan, Your Highness." I stuttered. She was shaking with anger.
"Who wanted to keep me in the dark about all this?"
"Your t-twin." she flicked her hand toward the exit.
"Send him in, will you?" I did as commanded. Running outside, I grabbed the prince by the sleeve of his tunic.
"Your sister summons you." I informed him. "Be careful. You pissed her off." He nodded and took a deep breath. The moment he stepped out of sight, there was a horrid crack, like a whip, followed by a loud curse from Prince Tristan. He stumbled out into the open, blood running from his newly broken nose and a bright red handprint marking his cheek. As he stormed off to find Tara, he stopped in front of me.
"Remind me to never again cage her beasts." he muttered ruefully. I tried not to laugh and responded in the formal way.
"As you command, sire." As soon as he turned his back, we all struggled not to break out into laughter. This plan failed completely. Within seconds we were all clutching our stomachs, rolling in the dust, bellowing great guffaws like some kind of animals. After all, it's not every day you get to see royalty bested by a drowsy girl.
