"Wow, you don't really look like the type of guy to walk out of class." Phil smirked, walking so close to Dan that their shoulders brushed every so often.

"I didn't really have a choice." Dan muttered in response, dropping his gaze to the floor.

"Where do you want to go?"

"Sorry?"

"We still have fifty minutes to kill, where do you want to go?"

"I don't know."

"Actually, I have an idea." Phil held out his hand again and, even though Phil could be leading Dan anywhere, Dan couldn't say no. He grabbed Phil's hands and allowed himself to follow him all the way down the deserted halls without looking back.

-

They ended up behind the school where no one in the right mind ever dared to go. It was where all of the smokers and drinkers hung out and, in case you didn't really figure it out already, it was somewhere Dan never planned to go. "Why did you take me here?" Dan mumbled, feeling something in the pit of his stomach which was similar to anxiety but wasn't. Adrenaline. He liked it.

"No one will find us. We have privacy." Phil responded as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. He then leant against the brick wall and shoved a hand into his pockets before pulling out a packet of cigarettes. Dan nervously glanced down at them before replying to Phil again.

"So you've been here less than a day and you already know all of the school's hideouts? Should I be worried?"

"Not really," Phil then held out his cigarettes so that Dan could easily take one. "Do you want one?"

"I don't smoke."

"Neither do I." Dan furrowed his eyebrows, not fully understanding why Phil would have cigarettes if he didn't even smoke. "I can see that you're confused. Well it's a metaphor, you see-"

"Don't you dare go all Augustus Waters on me."

"Ah.. you read?"

"Of course I do. It's my favourite thing to do. I wouldn't really expect you to though? With your tough guy image and all."

"Well this 'tough guy image' is nothing but an image. I wouldn't hurt a fly." Phil made sure to make quotation marks with his hands to emphasise his point. "Unless it was a really annoying fly, of course."

"Should I be afraid?"

"Why do you seem so suspicious? I am not going to kill you, Dan."

"It just all seems really peculiar. Why on earth would someone as cool as you be interested in someone as nerdy as me? I still don't understand the cigarette thing either."

"The cigarette thing is all part of my image. Also you think I am cool? Cute."

"I am not cute." Dan folded his arms before joining Phil and leaning against the wall. He tried his best to make his face look as intimidating as possible but in reality, he probably looked as intimidating as a teddy bear.

"When you try and make yourself look intimidating you look even cuter."

"Shut up." Phil raised one eyebrow, turning and looking at Dan with a surprised expression.

"You're telling me to shut up?"

"Sorry." Dan squeaked, kind of afraid that Phil might hurt him even though that sounded ridiculous.

"Don't look so scared. I'm not going to hurt you."

The bell then began to ring, making Dan feel the slightest hint of disappointment. "We better go before the actual alcoholics get here." Phil chuckled before grabbing Dan's hand and pulling him away from the wall.

-

"It was nice seeing you," Phil mumbled, edging closer to Dan so that their faces were almost touching. "I hope we can have another private meeting soon." Just as Dan hoped Phil would kiss him, Phil pulled back, his usual smirk back on his face.

"Yeah, me too.." Dan whispered as Phil walked away but he wasn't so sure that Phil heard.

-

Dan was almost five minutes late to meet Chris and PJ which definitely earned some raised eyebrows and questions. "Where have you been?" PJ asked as soon as Dan sat down at their table.

"Yeah.. and why are you so red?" Chris narrowed his eyes and watched Dan closely as he slowly dropped his bag to the floor.

"I may or may not have skipped most of last class." Dan mumbled because he knew that there was no chance that he could lie. He had been friends with Chris and PJ long enough that his lies were easy to see straight through.

"Why? Last time I checked you wouldn't dare hand your homework one minute past the deadline."

"Phil-"

"Phil? Hold on a moment.. how did you befriend him in the course of around an hour?"

"I don't know. He just started to talk to me and somehow he dragged me out of class-"

"Did he beat you up or anything? He wasn't mean to you, was he?" PJ sounded generally concerned and it was actually kind of adorable, especially since Dan now knew that Phil wouldn't hurt a fly (unless it was a really annoying one).

"No. He's actually a really sweet guy and he called me cute! Phil Lester called me cute!" Dan was letting out his inner fangirl as he squealed about the boy he hadn't even known a day.

"What did you say in return?" Dan could feel himself going red at the memory.
