Dan didn't really bother talking to anyone throughout the day, he just let Chris and PJ do all the talking whilst he just sat there, looking down at his hands. "Dan, did you speak to Phil?" Chris eagerly asked, smiling slightly. Dan just slowly shook his head, not even wanting to think about it.

"Was he not there?" PJ questioned, taking a small bite out of his sandwich. Dan shook his head again.

"I think he's avoiding me. He hates me." Dan mumbled, putting his head in his hands.

"He doesn't hate you. Have you tried calling him?"

"He won't pick up."

"Do you know where he lives? Maybe you could go to his and speak to him in private?" Dan just shrugged, frowning to himself. "We can't force you to do anything."

"Dan, can I borrow your phone quickly?" Chris asked, an idea forming in his head.

"Why?" Dan narrowed his eyebrows, suspicious.

"I left my phone at home today."

"And.."

"I need to find out what time my mum wants me home."

"Won't it be the same as usual?"

"She has friends coming over for dinner." PJ chipped in to help Chris out (Chris was terrible at lying).

"How do you know that, Peej?"

"Because my mum is one of the friends who is coming."

"Okay.." Dan furrowed his eyebrows as he slipped his phone of his pocket. After checking if he had any messages (he didn't have any..), he gave the phone to Chris. Chris smiled at Dan before clicking into Dan's contacts to find Phil. When he found him, he copied the number and texted it to himself then deleted the message. He pretended to dial his mum's number before talking into the phone.

"What time do I have to be home?" He waited a couple of moments as if to wait for his mum's response. "Oh, okay." Another couple of seconds of silence. "Thanks, see you later." Then he pretended to hang up, deleted the call history and handed the phone to Dan. "Turns out her friends aren't coming over any more." He chuckled as Dan suspiciously took the phone off of his friend.

"Oh. Okay." The bell then rang to save Chris from having to lie any more.

-

Chris and PJ had lied to Dan and they couldn't help but feel extremely bad but then they remembered that it was for the best. They told Dan that PJ had to help Chris clean his bedroom. They could tell that Dan was kind of upset that he wasn't invited (he was always invited!) but Dan didn't question anything so it was okay. "Are you sure you want to do this?" PJ nervously asked as Chris pulled out his phone and opened his text messages.

"For Dan!" Chris smiled, taking a deep breath before calling the number.

It rang a couple of times before someone picked up.

"Hello?" It was a woman's voice which confused PJ and Chris completely.

"Is Phil there?" PJ spoke up as Chris was kind of hyperventilating at the small set back of Phil not picking up the stupid phone.

"Who's this?" Chris widened his eyes before blurting out the name of one of the populars he knew Phil hung out with.

"Tyler!" PJ sent Chris a look which basically said what the hell are you on? He's going to know we're not Tyler, you idiot!

"One of Phil's friends?"

"Yeah.. is it okay if we talk to him?"

"He isn't here."

"Do you know where he is?"

"No.. I don't," That was when PJ noticed that the woman's voice was shaking and it was filled with trepidation. Why was that? "He hasn't been home since yesterday."

"Oh? Thank you anyway."

"If I see him I'll tell you that he called.."

"Thanks." Chris hung up before sending PJ a nervous glance. "He hasn't been home since yesterday and his mum doesn't know where he is? That's kind of dodgy."

"Yeah.. where is he?" Chris spoke up, his breathing finally normal as he calmed down slightly.

"And why does his mum have his phone?"

-

"How much longer do you want to stay here?" His brother, Martyn asked as he watched his younger brother collapse onto his bed. "It's been a whole day, mum's probably worrying."

"I don't know. I just need to clear my head." Phil mumbled, bringing a hand through his messy hair. "Can you do me a favour?"

"I'm already doing you a favour by letting you stay here."

"Please? It's not much.."

"What do you want?"

"Can you buy me some hair dye?"

"Hair dye? Why?"

"I need it, okay? But don't get black this time. Get blue."

"Why can't you get it?"

"I might run into someone I know!"

"Fine but I'm not paying."

"Yeah, I know.." Phil reached out and grabbed his backpack which had been discarded on the floor. He unzipped the front pocket and pulled out his black wallet before taking out enough money for hair dye. "Thanks, Martyn."

"It's alright." Martyn took the money and headed out of the small apartment.

-

Half way down the road, Martyn's phone started to ring in his pocket. He slipped it out, unsure of who would be phoning him before answering it. "Hello?" Martyn said, fiddling with the coins in his pockets with one of his hands.

"Martyn? Would you like to come over for dinner later? You may only live around ten minutes away but we haven't seen each other in a while. Plus, there's something we need to talk about." It took Martyn a couple of seconds to realise that it was his mum calling and she sounded slightly tense.

"I'm busy later. I have a friend coming over."

"Can we meet up for lunch tomorrow?" When Martyn realised that his mum probably wouldn't give up, he agreed (but not without sighing first).

-

"I have the hair dye!" Martyn yelled once he entered his apartment, fiddling with the box of dye in his hands.

"Thanks.." Phil muttered, reaching out and taking the box. "I'll be right back.

When Phil returned, his hair was blue, representing his sadness inside.

-

Dan walked home on his own, a frown on his face the whole way. He knew his friends were lying to him but he didn't know what to do about it because he didn't want to lose them too. He pushed his front door open, his head hung low as he walked into his house. "Are you alright?" His mum asked, making him sigh loudly to himself.

"No, mum. I'm not. Phil wasn't in school again today and Chris and PJ are lying to me again. I don't know what to do and who to trust anymore!" Dan responded, practically chucking his backpack onto the table so that it made a loud noise.

"Honey.." His mum held out her arms for Dan to run into. "It will be okay."

"No, it won't, mum.. it won't." That was when Dan let out everything he was holding inside and began to cry.
