"Dan, have you seen the new kid?" PJ said at lunch, taking a large bite from his sandwich.
"Of course he has! He's been eyeing him up all day!" Chris chipped in for Dan who couldn't hide his face which was turning a light pink-y colour.
"No, I haven't." Dan muttered, folding his arms and leaning back in his chair.
"You so have. You're in love!" Chris dragged out the o in 'love', making Dan groan internally.
"No, I'm not!"
"The last time we saw Heart-Eyes-Howell surface was when you were dating-"
"Don't you dare mention his name!"
"You look at him the same way." Dan rolled his eyes, lifting up his bottle of coke and taking a short sip.
"As if I would fall for someone that quickly." Dan retorted, placing his drink down on the table and bringing a hand through his brown hair.
"Love at first sight does exist, you know?" PJ added, backing Chris up with his love theory.
"No it most definitely does not."
"It does-" Chris cut off his argument when he noticed that someone was looking at their table, or more specifically, at Dan. "Dan? It looks like someone has taken an interest in you too."
"What do you mean?" Dan turned around to look at what Chris was seeing. The new boy was staring directly at Dan but, once he noticed the table were looking at him, he turned away, his face going noticeably red.
"Looks like Lester's got love eyes for you too."
"Love-Eyes-Lester!" PJ chuckled, finishing his sandwich with one last bite.
"That's brilliant, Peej." Chris laughed, making Dan groan yet again.
"This is stupid." Dan grumbled, taking one last sip of his coke before standing up. His chair scraped fairly loudly, making most of the lunch hall turn and glare at him for making such an unbearable high-pitched noise. "I'm going to go to class early." Dan then walked away from his group of friends, frowning as he thought about everything his two friends had said.

Dan's next class was maths. In other words, his least favourite lesson. He sat at the back of the room, a whole row of empty seats next to him because neither Chris or PJ were in his class and no one else in the school really liked him all that much. Dan decided to just stare out of the window the whole lesson, taking in the wonderful natural beauty of the world. Well, that was if you considered a field of nothing but grass beautiful.
That was how he didn't realise that the seat beside him was about to be occupied and not just by anyone.. but by the actual Phil Lester.
Well.. he didn't notice until his name was called and he was being tapped on the shoulder. "Yeah?" Dan muttered, turning to face whoever was talking to him. He had to hold back a gasp when he noticed who it was. "Phil? Why are you talking to me?"
"So you know my name?" Phil responded, looking down at his worksheet and writing something down on it.
"Yes? What do you want?" Dan really didn't mean for it to come out so snappy but it did. Great, now he sounded like a jerk.
"Calm down. No need to be so feisty."
"Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come out so rude."
"I was told that you're weird and that I shouldn't talk to you. I think you're kind of cool though."
"Excuse me?"
"Oh yeah, I don't think the populars like you very much. Not much of a deal though, they're just unintelligent people."
"If you think that then why do you hang out with them?" Dan wasn't really in much control over what was coming out of his mouth and it was beginning to make him sound rude but Phil didn't seem to care too much.
"I decided that I might as well fit in this time."
"This time?"
"Yeah. At my last school I was kind of a reject."
"Oh. I'm sorry for that."
"Lester! Just because it's your first day doesn't mean I'm afraid to give you and your friend a detention!" The teacher snapped at the pair, glaring at them and folding her arms to back up her point.
"Give me a detention, see how much I care." Phil retorted, dropping his pen so that it made a dramatically loud noise when it hit the table.
"Don't push your luck!"
"I'm not. I'm just saying that I won't go to the detention even if you do set it."
"Lester, outside. Now." Phil gladly stood up, picking up his bag and stuffing his book inside it.
"Come on, Dan!" He said so that every student in the class could hear. Dan immediately went bright red in embarrassment before slowly shaking his head. But he couldn't resist when Phil held his hand out.
He packed his bag and walked out of the class, despite the teacher's yells.
