Claude and Zoe jumped, looking back as the barricaded porch broke apart. As zombies poured into the house, the two quickly hurried to their feet.
"Damn!" Zoe exclaimed nervously.
Claude reached for his gun, standing up before shooting several zombies dead. As he ran out of bullets, more creatures continued creeping toward them.
"We're out of ammo! Get upstairs! Quick!" Claude exclaimed.
The couple hurried away, rushing naked up the stairs of the house. As the zombies followed them, the creatures stumbled, having difficulty navigating the staircase.
"Sh*t! What do we do, Claude?!" Zoe asked frantically. Claude looked around, spotting a large cabinet near the top of the stairs. He moved to it, realizing it was quite heavy.
"Zoe! Grab that end! Let's block the stairs with it!" Claude said. Zoe hurried over, grabbing the cabinet as the two slowly positioned it in front of the stairs. As they wedged the large object in the way of the staircase, a zombie crept up toward them.
As the creature reached the top, it moaned, clawing at Claude and Zoe from over the cabinet. Claude cringed, suddenly rushing forward before punching it in the face. It fell backward, tumbling down the stairs to ground level.
"...Great. Looks like we lost the first floor to those things," Claude said.
"And our clothes are still down there, too," Zoe said with a blush.
"I'd say that's the least of our problems at this point," Claude replied. "We're out of ammo and trapped on the second floor. If those zombies manage to storm this floor, we're in big trouble."
"It looks like they have trouble getting up the stairs," Zoe said, watching as they scrambled at the base of the steps.
"Well that's good, at least," Claude said.
"...Bleh. They stink so much," Zoe said, holding her nose.
"Heh. What do you expect? I don't think zombies are big on showering," Claude replied.
"Clearly not," Zoe said. "Well? What do we do now?" Claude sighed, having a look around.
"It's essential this cabinet remain here. It's wedged in pretty tight, but if it falls, we're done for," Claude said. "We should reinforce it with some other stuff. Stay here and guard the stairs while I look around."
"...Be careful," Zoe said gently.
"...Yeah. You too," Claude replied, kissing her before heading down the hall.
The boy looked around, spotting a small table in Stacy's room. He grabbed it, reinforcing the barricade before looking for more stuff. He grabbed several other things: chairs, desks, and anything else he could find to bolster their defenses. As he further reinforced the blockade, he paused, taking a look at it.
"That should hold for awhile," Claude said.
"Yeah, but what do we do up here? The rations and food we have are downstairs," Zoe replied.
"...I know," Claude said worriedly. "We have to get rid of the zombies down there somehow."
"But how? We're out of bullets, and we're naked for goodness sake!" Zoe said.
"Hmm," Claude replied, thinking for a moment. "I wonder if there's something we could use as a weapon up here. If we can find something, we might be able to kill the zombies as they wander up the stairs."
"Good idea. I don't know what we'd use, though," Zoe said, folding her arms as she looked around.
"I'll check the bathroom," Claude said, heading to said room before flipping on the light. He opened the drawer under the sink, crouching down and having a look inside. Finding nothing of use, he stood up, looking around before noticing the toilet plunger. He picked it up, wryly smiling before returning to Zoe.
"...Ahem. A plunger? Now there's a deadly weapon," the girl said sarcastically. Claude raised his hand, ripping off the rubber portion of the object. What was left was a long wooden stick that was blunt on both ends.
"Now to sharpen the thing," Claude said. He wedged the end of it between the wall and the cabinet, prying it back before breaking off the tip, leaving a sharp edge.
"...Nice!" Zoe said, impressed by his craftiness.
"Thanks," Claude replied.
Just then, one of the zombies moaned, slowly creeping up the stairs toward their position. As it reached the cabinet, it grunted, reaching out and trying to claw at Claude.
"Oh, shut up!" Claude said, suddenly raising the newly sharpened stick. He thrust it at the zombie, skewering it through the eye as the creature fell down the steps.
"Good one!" Zoe said.
"Heh. See? Deadly weapon, indeed!" Claude replied with a smirk. "Let's lure the rest of them up here."
The two started making noise, yelling and banging the walls to get the zombies' attention. The creatures all snarled, marching to their dooms one by one. As each of them arrived at the cabinet, Claude shoved the stick through their eye, killing them one after the next. As the final one was killed, Zoe broadly smiled, clapping twice.
"Finally! Way to go, Claude!" she said, sidling up to the boy before kissing him.
"Thanks, Zoe. That should be the last of them," Claude replied.
"But... how can we be sure? There could be more of them down there, couldn't there...?" Zoe asked.
"...Only one way to find out," Claude said, raising a leg before climbing over the barricade.
"Claude!" Zoe exclaimed worriedly.
"Stay here, Zoe. I'll check downstairs and see if it's safe," the boy said.
"...Be careful!" Zoe said.
"I'll be fine," Claude replied, boldly heading downstairs stark naked.
