Just then, moans started up from every direction, the group spotting zombies fast approaching.
"Yay! More company!" Sara said playfully.
"Oh, man... here we go again," Claude said.
"So many have been affected... it seems there's no end to these things," Blair said worriedly.
"Don't worry, cop lady. With Abby on your side, these losers don't stand a chance!" Abby said, giving the zombies a grin.
As the creatures closed in from all sides, the group braced for attack, Blair and Travis opening fire as the mob drew near. As the zombies crept forth, Abby rushed forward, knocking their heads off one after another. As Sara aided Abby from nearby, Claude guarded Misty, killing a wayward zombie as it crept its way near.
As the six fiercely struggled to hold off the zombies, ever more continued to appear, creeping through entrances, crawling through trees, and climbing over walls.
"...Damn! There's so many this time!" Blair shouted between bursts of her assault rifle.
"Yeah. It's like the whole town's after us," Claude replied, digging his axe from a zombie's skull.
"Don't worry, Claude! I'll protect you from these creeps!" Abby yelled, slaying ever more zombies as Sara and Travis did the same.
The group gave their best resistance, but were surrounded by too many of the creatures. As the thick sea of zombies grew near, Blair worriedly surveyed their surroundings.
"...There's too many! We have to escape!" she exclaimed.
"Are you kidding? I'm not scared of these maggots!" Abby replied, kicking a zombie's head high in the sky.
"That's easy for you to say, Abby. But if Blair, Misty, or myself get so much as scratched, it's all over," Claude said. Abby frowned.
"Claude...," she replied worriedly.
As the group of six stood completely surrounded, Misty looked down, suddenly spotting something on the ground.
"...Look!" she exclaimed, pointing to a small manhole cover.
"...The sewer system! Of course! We can escape down to there! Good thinking, Misty!" Claude said.
The six hurried forward, Claude prying the cover open with his axe. The others quickly escaped into the ground as Claude went in last, shutting the lid as the mob fell onto the copper cover.
The group then found themselves in total darkness, zombies moaning from above as Blair reached for her flashlight.
"...Gross. It reeks down here," Abby remarked, holding her nose along with Sara. Just then, Blair flicked on her flashlight, illuminating the darkness as the group warily looked around at the sewers.
"...Where now, I wonder?" Claude asked.
"We should find another way to the surface. One that's not flooded with zombies," Blair said, traipsing through the darkness along with the others.
As the group quietly crept through the shadows, Misty paused, the others looking back as Blair shined her light at her.
"...Misty?" she asked.
The little girl froze in place, eyes slowly widening as she looked on at them.
"...Listen!" she said, the others falling silent as the sounds of distant buzzing filled the air.
Blair slowly hesitated, warily turning sideways before shining her light down a nearby tunnel. As she looked down the corridor, she went pale, watching in horror as countless cockroaches lined the walls. Misty and Sara shrieked as Abby curiously tilted her head at the bugs, Claude watching in shock as Travis looked on.
"What's the big deal? They's just roaches," he said calmly. Claude slowly shook his head.
"...No... look," he replied.
The group suddenly fell silent, watching as a roach the size of a bus appeared in the distance, its giant antennae twitching up and down. As its massive body tilted toward them, it swiftly crept through the tunnel, fast approaching as its legs skittered along.
As Misty and Sara screamed in fright, Travis raised his rifle, firing at the fast approaching insect. As Blair stood in shock, Claude grabbed her M16, carefully taking aim before opening fire. As countless bullets tore into its body, the giant insect gave a shrill shriek, green and yellow guts spraying everywhere. As the creature scurried forth, the smaller roaches quickly took flight, flying in all directions as screams filled the sewers. Travis and Claude pulled their triggers, letting fly countless bullets as the creature drew near. As the giant roach came within several feet, the insect suddenly gave a piercing cry, finally giving out as it fell to the ground.
As the group warily looked on in fright, the roaches flying around changed direction, slowly crawling onto the giant roach's carcass.
"...Guh-ross!," Abby said with a grim expression.
"...Let's get out of here," Claude said, hurrying away along with the others.
