Chapter Four
✯
"Stefan? Caroline? Please tell me you guys are actually here, and I'm not just hallucinating a rescue mission again.." I breathed, as the blurry duo came into view and I remained chained to the ceiling.
"What'd they do to you?" Caroline sympathetically spoke up, as she and Stefan walked closer.
"You mean before or after the gallon of wolfsbane they injected me with.." I muttered.
"We're gonna get you out of here." Stefan chimed in.
"Just hang on." Caroline added, causing me to furrow my eyebrows. "Right..sorry."
Stefan made his way behind me, using his strength to rip apart the chains while Caroline attempted to catch me.
She jumped back, hissing in pain, causing me to fall limply to the floor.
"What happened?" Stefan asserted.
"It's like her skin is vervain.." Caroline acknowledged, looking down at her hands before her eyes met mine.
I groaned from my spot on the floor. "Valerie's spell." I addressed, unable to think of another way to get out of here as familiar pain erupted in my head. "Not again.."
"You want to punish me for what I did? Fine. Do it. Punish me. Torture me. Kill me for all I care, but leave Elena out of this." Damon's unsteady voice rose in anger as he stood across from Lily in the Salvatore family crypt.
"Do you remember when you broke my grandmother's vase?" Lily calmly questioned.
"What?" Damon's face contorted in confusion.
"You were young, ten maybe. You denied it, even when your father made you cut a switch from the yard, even when he beat you with it until you were bloody. Still, you denied it vehemently." Lily continued, taking small steps closer to Damon.
"You were sitting there playing with your little toy soldiers, bloody and bruised. So, I switched tactics, and the next morning when you woke, your room was bare. No toy soldiers, no toys at all. And you cried and cried, admitted everything." Lily concluded.
"She's not a toy soldier." Damon sadly breathed, with furrowed brows.
"And Malcolm was not a vase." Lily acknowledged, making her way out of the crypt.
I steadied my breathing, releasing my rough grip on my head.
Lily took my sister.
"What was that, Cassidy? What'd you see?" Stefan badgered, helping me sit upright.
"Uh- nothing I can't tell you later." I affirmed, faking a smile, earning a nod.
"So, about the vervain-skin thing.." Caroline spoke up.
"Right. Well, one of the heretics was torturing me, and the other one said she would help, so I figured it would only burn them." I explained, as Stefan grabbed a jacket from a coatrack in the corner.
"It's all right." he placed the jacket on me, making my skin easier for them to touch. "When we get out of here, we'll call Bonnie."
"Yeah- there's got to be a way to get rid of this." Caroline confirmed, nodding as she and Stefan helped me up.
Caroline strung my arm around her shoulder.
"I'm gonna call Damon and tell him that we're ready." Stefan chirped, just as my skin began tingling.
