Chapter Nineteen
✯
Enzo and I stood behind one of the airplanes at the airfield, while I tapped my foot, waiting for Nora to deliver Alexandria.
"Calm down, love. Everything will go as planned." Enzo whispered, lightly rubbing my back.
Suddenly, Nora appeared with Alexandria, immediately shoving her towards us.
"As requested." Nora bluntly spoke,
"And as promised, here we are." Enzo motioned between to him and I.
"Where's Mary Louise?" Nora badgered.
"Resting in the office. I hope you remember how to drive." Alex held up her keys.
"What about the antidote?" Enzo perked,
"Who said I had an antidote?" Alex's eyebrows furrowed, causing my face to fall.
"You said you'd give her everything you can to heal her." Nora bickered.
"And I am. I have nothing." Alex replied. "Look, here's what I know about the pills; We tried to create the antidote, and we failed."
"What?" Enzo breathed, causing Alex to pause for a second before she looked back at Nora.
"Meanwhile, Mary Louise will be dead within the week." she concluded.
"I'll tear your throat out!" Nora took a step towards Alex, before Enzo extended his arm, stopping her.
"No! I need her first." Enzo affirmed.
"You can stay here and yell at me if you want, but then I might not give you a car." Alex scoffed, shaking her head. "I suggest you go make the most of the time your girlfriend has left."
Alex tossed the car-keys to Nora, who caught them with a longing look.
Nora nodded to me, knowing that I'd been taking the pills, and I shot her a small smile before she turned around and began walking away.
"For your sake, I hope you're lying." Enzo growled, staring at Alexandria.
"Why so interested in the pills? They're really only useful if you want to fight a witch. Or hide from a locator spell." Alex chirped, causing my lip to twitch.
"Speak plainly, Alexandria. I'm not in the mood for delay." Enzo's eyes grew narrow.
"I know you've been raiding the Armory's supplies." Alex crossed her arms. "Figured it out after Rayna escaped. But why did you steal so many pills? Who could you have been giving them to?"
Her eyes found me, trailing up and down my figure.
"I haven't stolen anything, all right? Seems to me, you've just lost track of your possessions." Enzo took a threatening step forward, causing me to grab his arm, and pull him back.
"Or perhaps you're lying to me? We're family, so you know I'm not an idiot." Alex pursed her lips before her eyes fell back to me, and she took a step closer. "You have my dearest regards, Ms. Gilbert."
With that, she brushed past my shoulder, and strolled off.
My face fell before Enzo let out a scream, kicking the large tire of the airplane behind us.
"Enzo-" I started, until he spun around to face me, and his eyes glossed over.
"No. This isn't it. We're going to find an antidote. I promised you." he confirmed, earning a light nod.
✯
Enzo sat beside me on the couch in our remote cabin, neither one of us having said a word since the airfield.
