Chapter Sixteen
✯
"Are you going to untie me?" Enzo groaned from his spot in the classroom chair.
After Damon and I left for the hospital earlier, we completely forgot that Enzo was still tied up. In all honesty, it would've been funnier if we'd just left him here.
"It's tempting. The ropes make it easier to kill you." Damon growled, staring out the window before he waltzed over to Enzo.
I sat ontop of the teacher's desk with my legs folded.
"You're gonna kill me?" Enzo chuckled, sighing once he noticed the annoyed look on Damon's face. "Look, mate, I assure you that giving Rayna Cruz the Phoenix Sword was not on my list of things to do today."
"Really?" I hopped off the teacher's desk, gaining the duo's attention. "You know what was on my list of things to do today?"
Enzo sighed,
"Get drunk with my best-friend." I paused, shrugging. "That was it. That was the most stressful part of my day. And then you blackmailed Damon, screwed us into this scavenger hunt, and now Stefan's paying the price."
"Rayna gave me no choice." Enzo defended,
"No choice?!" I exclaimed, dramatically hopping over each row of chairs as if it's nothing. "That's an interesting notion."
"I'll tell you what. Why don't we let fate decide what happens?" Damon suggested, pulling out a coin from his pocket. "Heads, you live. Tails, you don't."
My eyes widened, and Enzo's face dropped as Damon flipped the coin, catching it, placing it on the back of his hand.
"Elena's alive." Enzo blurted out of fear.
"No, sir, she's not. Cassidy and I watched her burn with our own eyes." Damon spoke up, sitting on the back of the chair in front of Enzo to face him.
"No, you weren't of sound mind. You were hallucinating. You saw what you wanted to see." Enzo tried to explain.
"Really?" Damon sarcastically questioned.
"Tyler thought it best to have an empty decoy coffin." Enzo continued,
"So now you and Tyler are a dynamic duo?" Damon rose his eyebrows.
"He's telling the truth, Damon." I chimed in, causing Damon to turn his head towards me.
"You knew about this?" Damon narrowed his eyes, causing Enzo's to widen in shock.
"Yes. Tyler ran it by me first. I knew you'd threaten him into seeing her eventually, so I suggested keeping her somewhere extra safe." I confirmed. "Not to mention, did you really think I'd let my drop-dead-gorgeous older sister be kept in some crusty abandoned storage unit?"
"Take me to her." Damon broke in.
"Damon..." I cautioned,
"She's in New York, where my friends are keeping her very safe and very much alive." Enzo admitted, as my mouth formed a straight line.
"Good." Damon lightly smiled with sad eyes, as I shot Enzo a look.
✯
I narrowed my eyes as we drove up to the large villa-looking building, peering through the window as I leaned in between the front and passenger seat.
"Valerie said she just lost cell reception with Stefan." Bonnie piped up as we pulled to a stop. She got out of the car, pulling the seat forward for me to climb over and out of the car.
