Chapter Twenty-One

Three Years Ago:

I sighed as I packed up the last box in my sister's dorm room.

Bonnie and Caroline had already gotten their stuff, so all that was left was Elena's. For the most part, the girls helped me clean up her stuff. I'm keeping most of it, and the rest is going into storage.

I grabbed her picture frame from atop the empty dresser, lightly smiling when I saw that it was a picture of her with Damon drawn into it. He did that when we got back from the Other-other side, and saw that she'd replaced all of their pictures together.

After putting the frame into the last box, all that remained was a single diary.

I picked it up from its spot on the mattress, allowing my hand to trace the cover. Respectively not reading it, I gently placed it in the box before folding it shut.

I looked around the room one last time, picking up the box, remembering to shove Damon's stupid 'goodbye' letter in my back pocket. I then walked out of the room, not turning back.

Someone in a graduation robe passed by in the hallway, exiting the building, before the faint sound of walkie-talkies and footsteps filled my vampiric ears. I froze in my spot, scanning the area. My eyes landed on the shadows that grew closer.

I cautiously took a few steps back before I took off running. I paused for a moment, my head skimming my surroundings.

There was nowhere to hide. They'd find me.

All of a sudden, a hand clamped on my mouth from behind, and I let out a shriek. I immediately tried fighting back, causing my box to fall to the floor, until I heard the soothing sound of Enzo hushing me.

He vamp-sped us behind one of the couches in the common area, pinning me to the floor.

My eyes widened as I steadied my breathing.

He held my hands to stop them from shaking as he remained on top of me, holding a finger to his lips. "Shh..." he whispered.

The footsteps and shadows grew closer, causing my heart to speed up once more.

Enzo suddenly sped us over to the corner stairs, where we'd be safe for the moment.

"What the hell is going on?" I hissed, standing upright.

"Alex told the Armory to bring you in again. I'm not gonna let them." Enzo looked into my eyes, earning a sigh of relief.

"Thank you." I nodded, before I felt a sharp pinch in my arm.

I let out a grunt as my eyes began to close, and I collapsed into Enzo's arms. "Thank me when this is over, love."

Present Day:

"Are you sure you're well enough to travel?" Enzo badgered, receiving an eye-roll from me.

"For the millionth time, yes. This hotel isn't exactly locator-spell free." I acknowledged.

I had been keeping the Armory off our back by protecting the cabin from any possible tracking spells. However, we're not at the cabin right now, and my magic is too weak at the moment, given the side-effects of the pills.

"Come here." Enzo mumbled, causing me to drop my packed bag, and stroll over to him.

"I still can't believe this is happening." I whined, as he spun me around, wrapping his arms around me from behind.
