Edd takes a deep breath as he steps into the cozy diner and slides in the booth farthest from the door. He glanced over at Kevin across the table. Kevin's cheeks were pink, and Edd wasn't sure if it was because he was too warm, or if he was embarrassed.
A waitress with Lavender hair and deep violet roots sauntered over to their table. "Arvilla, lovely to see you again." Eddward purred.
"Hey kitten!" She winked. "The usual? Hot coco with a pepermint stick, tomato soup, grilled cheese and some extra crackers? And what would this fiery side dish like?"
Kevin rolled his eyes and gave her a once over before he told her what he wanted. "Name's Kevin. Go ahead and give me the same."
She nodded and leaned over the table to squeeze Edd's face. "Wanna a muffin too, Muffin? I got a banana bread one with your name on it. How about you pop that last Jolly Rancher in your mouth and take the offer? It's on me." She spun around after releasing Edd's cheeks and stuck out her tongue.
"Don't they have a uniform that will actually fit her? Those top three buttons are straining something fierce."
"Oh, you noticed? Of course, what would I expect. At least you didn't linger. They gave up a long time ago trying to... 'Fix' that problem. They have a mind of their own." Edd looked into Kevin's eyes. "I can get her number for you. You aren't her type though."
"And you would know her type because?"
"She likes skinny blue-eyed men with a lovely tooth gap front and center." Edd savored the astonished look on Kevin's face.
"I wouldn't have.. guessed. She doesn't seem like your type either. I thought you.. Nevermind. It doesn't matter. What about this Jolly rancher thing?"
Oh my. Arvilla and her big mouth. Edd fiddled with his hands and tried to decide his next step. Kevin seemed a little taken back at that earlier comment. Did he pull a string? Maybe he should try and Tug a little harder.
"Whatever would you think, Kevin? What did you think my type was?" Edd popped the jolly rancher in his mouth. Edd saw Kevins gaze linger a little too long on the sweet treat. He stuck out his tongue. "Cawe fow a tathte?" Kevins cheeks matched his hair at this point.
"What's your deal today Double Dweeb?"
"Just stepping out of my comfort zone. I've been on College almost 3 years. Not a single party. Studying every waking moment. I suppose it's getting... Old."
Kevin raised his eyebrows in shock. "Really? If you're interested there's one tonight. It shouldn't be too crazy. you would adjust easily to the enviroment. Want to see if My Little pony wants to join us?"
Edd chuckled. "I would rather not. She works late anyways."
"So.. things didn't end well for you two?"
"This is amusing! No, Kevin. There was nothing going on between us in the first place. I was just teasing!" Edd chuckled and rest his chin on his hand.
"You're not messing around this time?"
Baby blues met Emerald green. Edd touched the tip of his nose with his left index finger. "I promise."
They finished their food and called an Uber again. "So, where are we heading to? Anywhere I would know?"
"Well Nazz is visiting her boo thing so He's throwing a party at his and his roomates place. They're alright people to chill with." Kevin ran his fingers through his red locks. It was cut close to his skin but on the top of his head the hair there was 4 inches long. He put a soft palmade to keep it a messy- tame look. Edd kept on admiring what Kevin was wearing. He wore a cable knit dark green sweater  with a fold over collar, a grey V-neck, a brown leather belt, and dark boot cut jean that were faded in the middle of the legs. And brown Doc Martins.
"Lovely choice in shoes, Kevin. Are they new?"
"Oh uh.. Yeah. It's getting slippery out. Thought I would invest in something more sensible so I don't fall on my ass like I did with my Converse."
Kevin looked away as a blush came upon his cheeks. He wondered if Edd caught on as to why he got the boots. "It doesn't even matter. I just need to relax. Tonight will be fine." He thought as the Uber driver pulled up to the house.
"Kev!" Nazz ran up and jumped into Kevin's awaiting arms.
"Hey Nazzmanian Devil! Lets get this party started!"
Edd stuck as close as possible to Kevin's back without touching him. He looked around the dark room with only a few standing lamps to light it. There was a sound system in the corner of the room with someone's phone hooked up to it and a random playlist. Kevin turned his head to glance at Edd. "Wanna beer?" Edd thought a moment before deciding on a Crown Maple and Coke. He'll just have to remember to Hydrate more than he already was. "So, what would you like to do at this party? What do you think your scene would be?"
"My scene? I'm not exactly sure. Let's find out. What are they doing outside?"
Kevin stepped out side and the smell hit him. "It seems like they're smoking some Mary Jane. If you want to, that's fine. I'll stand by though. I can't risk it with my job and Baseball scholarship. They do frequent drug tests."
Edd pondered the thought for a moment. He felt his back getting tense and the earlier jolly rancher starting to wear off already. He didn't want to whine and ruin Kevin's good time. "I think I would like to join. Just for a little bit.
Kevin raised his eye brows in shock. "Really? A goody two shoes like yourself? Alright. You did want the full college experience." He chuckled. He can't believe Edd right now. He was really going all out. Wait. " You don't seem new to this Edd. It almost seems like you dabbled in weed before. Hm. Was that Jolly Rancher a little more special?"
Edd blushed. "And so what if it was? I haven't been eating right. It's the... stress. It just helps me out every once in a while. It's not like I indulge every day."
"I'm just giving you shit. Marijuana has a lot of medical benifits. It's actually recommended to a lot of our patients going through chemo. I'm actually transferring to that ward in the hospital soon. I want to light up the patient's faces. Ha. I'll be like Patch Adams!"
"Really?! Well that is very nice of you Kevin. Maybe you should go and work with the children instead. The adults may already be jaded to the point where there is no return, you wouldn't want to he burnt out on your job already! Enjoy it while you can full of the innocence of adolescents."
"Ha it almost sounds like you're trying to talk me out of it. Besides, I already decided. Adults can communicate better with me than a child can."
"A valid point Kevin. I'm sure you'll do great. But always consider your options! You are only a RN after all. When you graduate and become a BSN you will have more opportunities for better things."
Edd walked over to the group and introduced himself. After a lot of nods and mumbles, he was passed the joint. He took two puffs and passed it on. The effect was almost instant. Edd felt good. He walked back over to Kevin and they head back inside. He looked around once his eyes adjusted and sat on the couch, nursing his drink and people watching. The party picked up a little bit and people started to dance. Kevin and Nazz were in the middle, dancing and talking about something. Edd was curious to what it was. Why was Kevin looking at him? He was walking this way. Why? Edd just wanted to sit, feel good, and observe people having fun.
A set of arms was on either side of Edd's head gripping the back of the couch. Kevin lowered his head and whispered "Why observe people having fun when you can have it yourself, Edd?"
"You're right. Lets go mingle. I need another drink. It tastes like pancakes."
Kevin chuckled and got up. Then "Earned it" by The Weekend came on. Kevin smiled and swayed his hips to the rhythm and Snapped his fingers in time with the lyrics. Edd was mesmerized by Kevins hands. Left hand *snap*. Then with his right hand, kevin grabs and pulls Edd to him all at once.
