{chapter 17}

I was sitting in the main waiting room of the hospital when Persephone was in surgery. I hadn't gotten a full night of sleep since the accident. This hospital had practically became a second home.

I started to doze off when the doors swung open and a very ill appearing Jake was wheeled in. EMT's were telling the staff to take him to the nearest surgery room.

Springing to my feet, I ran to an EMT and asked what had happened. I'd also told him I was a family member.

The EMT told me that Jake had noticed severe bruising after having stomach pains around his lower abdomen. What had happened was that when the cars had collided, the seat belt had pushed hard against him, so hard that it caused the cells to die. Today he had first noticed the pain and bruising.

Jake had to go into surgery immediately. The dead tissues inside his abdomen could end up poisoning his blood, or something to that effect. I was trying to make sure Jake was okay.

As I ran over to him, the doors leading to a hall, which I assume led to his room, had closed in front of my face.

He would be okay. I felt Persephone say this whether it really happened or not.

I made my way back to my seat and thought. Thinking was one activity I was good at. I couldn't be wrong or right and people couldn't judge me on it. It took me to another place full of whatever I wanted.

And right now I wanted Persephone.

***

(Persephone's POV)

All I wanted right now was to spend all of my time with Rayle. I had noticed, however, that this dream seemed more realistic and had been lasting much longer. This wasn't a problem, though, because anytime spent with Rayle was perfect.

I was laying down in a pasture next to Rayle when music began to play. 'Hey there Delilah' was being strummed over a guitar. I closed my eyes as I felt the chords carry me into a sleep. I smiled as a bright light came into view. I took a few steps back as it came closer. The peculiar thing with the light was that as it grew, the music became louder and the more alive I felt.

I started to walk into the notes of the song, but was called back. I turned around to see Rayle.

"Persephone. You're going to leave me now. Don't you want to stay?"

"Of course I do. But don't I need to get back?"

Rayle's face shifted. He looked distraught.

"You see the scars on your body? They do that to you. Do you really want to get back out there? Into the world that makes you destroy yourself? I make you better, don't you see? The scars are gone by my touch!"

"Yes, well-"

I had taken too many steps back and felt myself plummeting to the ground. The chorus to 'Hey there Delilah' had started to come to a close. This time, Rayle wouldn't be there to catch me.

Okay. I know I have sucked at updating. Really really sucked. But here is a new chapter! I hope you enjoyed!
