Chapter 37: A Night of Melancholy

I walked down the stairs..
On my red velvet gown..

I tried to break a smile but i'm so nervous.

Napakaraming tao. Iginala ko ang paningin ko and I saw Mom, Dad and Kuya. On the other side is Tita Anya, Tito Marcus at si Jenna na naka whit gown din ngayon. Sasha is beside kuya on her black gown na bagay na bagay sa kanya.
There's Vitto, Chris, Kyle and Georgette near the fountain.
Yung mga kapwa cheerleaders ko, the basketball team, co-officers, co-journalists at mga teachers namin. Nandito sila.

Nandito silang lahat maliban kay JJ.
Actually, siya ang unang hinanap ng mga mata ko. But I haven't saw him. He haven't text or called.

Hindi pa nga siya bumabati.

Habang hinahanap ko siya, a song played in my mind..

I glanced at the door pero walang JJ na pumasok.

Mahaba haba yung staircase kaya natatagalan ako. Nakatutok din sakin yung spotlight.

It all looks great. I look like a princess. A princess without a prince.

When I reached the bottom of the stairs..
Mom and Dad hugged me.

"Happy Birthday Anak."

"Happy Birthday lil sis."

They hugged me. We hugged each other.

The others greeted too. Jenna, Sasha, Georgette, Vitto, Kyle and Chris.

Then everyone in the room approached and greeted me.

For once, everything was perfect.

I looked around. But I see no JJ in the room. Not any sign of him.

And it was slow motion
Standing there in a party dress
In red lipstick, with no one to impress

He didn't come.

Tears were about to fall when I heard a familiar singing voice outside.

May stage din dun at settled siya. As I heard kanina, may event din na gaganapin dun. Gustong i-rent yun ni Daddy para mas malawak daw yung venue pero reserved na daw.

But I heard it. I heard him..

Dali dali akong lumabas and I saw him on the stage. Smiling genuinely at me..

Someone strummed the guitar..
