Daryl;

After a pretty silent RV ride, we made it back to Alexandria and after we all disembarked the vehicle, Rick told us to make our way to the church and tell anyone we met on the way to go too.

Carol watched with slightly worried eyes as we all started to crowd into the small building, most of us cramping ourselves into the uncomfortable pews so we didn't have to stand.

There were hushed conversations around us, most of the people wanting to know why we had been asked here when they could be focusing on more important matters like trying to find ways we could scavenge food.

Rick came in a few minutes later; Jesus and the other guy from the Hilltop following him solemnly as the three of them made their way towards the front.

"Thanks for coming," Rick said loudly, "I know you'd rather be anywhere else but this is important." He gestured to Jesus who had taken a seat behind him, "For those who don't know, this is Jesus. He comes from a community called the Hilltop and their people are willing to trade with us. Food, supplies. But..."

"But?" Tobin asked from the pew in front, "But what?"

"They've asked us to do something for them first."

"Which is?"

Rick ran his hand over his face but before he could speak, Jesus piped up instead, "There's this group. They call themselves the Saviours. We've been trading with them for a while now. I say trading, they pretty much turned up and demanded that we give them half our stuff."

"And?" Morgan said from the back of the church, "What does this have to do with any of us?"

"We agreed that if the Hilltop gave us some of their supplies, we'd kill this other group."

Sarah visibly winced when the church erupted into whispers once again and I squeezed her hand with mine. She didn't have to do this if she didn't want to. I wasn't going to make her.

"So what?" Morgan spoke again, "We're just supposed to kill them, just like that?"

"Yes."

He let out a bitter laugh, "That's wrong and you know it, Rick. Going in, killing these people without hearing their side of the story?"

"They killed a kid!" Rick said firmly, "They rolled up to the Hilltop and killed an innocent teenager. We don't need to hear their side of the story. We need to do this. We need to do it before they come for us."

Sarah sighed again and began playing with my hand as she got comfortable against the back of the pew, already getting the feeling that this was going to be a long meeting.

**

As we predicted, the meeting ran way longer than it needed to.

After everyone who wanted to say their piece had done so, we had still ended up at the same conclusion, we were still going to be keeping our half of the deal and we were going to make the plans tomorrow morning.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the only thing on my mind as the two of us returned home, where we fell onto the sofa.

"Jus listening to everyone talk like that has made me exhausted," Sarah mumbled rubbing her forehead, "And I'm sure I've got a headache. I'm just gonna go to bed."

"'kay," I sighed, closing my eyes, "I'll bring ye' some painkiller through in a little bit."

I could feel her eyes on me as she walked behind the sofa, hand ruffling my hair as she did so and after fixing it, the whole baby thing started creeping into my mind again.

Did I even want a kid? A younger version of me running around and swearing at anyone and everyone was enough to put me off. But if they got Sarah's personality...and her looks. Not bad. My lips quirked up at the thought. Her looks and my personality.

I hadn't thought of myself as a father figure, especially with the disaster of my own but the more I thought about it, the more the idea started to grow on me.

I wanted a baby.

Sarah;

I watched as he continued to stare at the ceiling, a concentrated look on his face as he seemed to study the patterns above him.

He was acting strange, that much was true. He hadn't really been the same since going to the Hilltop. Perhaps the whole mention of Negan threw him off a little.

Daryl came through ten minutes after I had finally crawled into bed, tapping my shoulder for me to take the pills he had brought with him and after swallowing them, I curled up into his side, "Are you okay?"

"Hm?" he breathed, eyes opening to look down at me, "'m fine. Why ye' askin'?"

"I dunno," I shrugged, tracing patterns on his grey shirt, "You just seem a little distracted. Is it the Negan thing?"

"No," he answered immediately, "It ain't that."

From underneath my ear, I felt his heartbeat escalate and I pushed myself up onto my elbow, "You're worrying me now. Tell me what's wrong."

"Nothin's wrong. I've jus' been thinkin' 'bout something..." he trailed off.

"And that something is...?"

"Babies."

"Babies?" I repeated, "Why are you thinking about...oh."

"Yeah," he said softly, "Oh."

"You want a baby?" I breathed.

"No!" he exclaimed, "Well, maybe. Someday. It's just something to think 'bout, ain't it? Have you ever thought about it?"

"I've always wanted kids," I admitted, "I just thought that with the way they are, that'd be out of the question. But Glenn and Maggie are doing it."

"They are," he agreed, "Maybe we could do it too."

I smiled, burying my head in his shirt as I lay back down, "Maybe we could."
