Chapter 24

We surfaced with a gasp, and I looked around in aw at the beauty that was Lake Hylia.

Link turned to me, angry. "What in Din's name were you thinking???" He yelled at me.

"I was thinking that this was the way we needed to go." I laughed.

"What do you mea-" Link started to say, but a Zora surfaced, cutting him off.

"Hello! Welcome to Lake Hylia! Down there is the portal to Zora's Domain. The river flows into the domain and then into here. Stuff from the river ends up here." He told us, blatantly.

"Um... Okay?" Link replied as the Zora plunged back under the water.

"HEY! Link! There's something down in the water!" Navi told him, and he swam over by her.

"Another something over here!" Tatl told me, and I swam to her.

Both of us dived, and resurfaced. Each holding a bottle!

"Oh wow! It's a letter from Ruto!" Navi told Link.

I looked to Tatl, wondering what was inside the bottle.

"Umm... It's a letter. From... Robert. Do you know a Robert?" Tatl asked.

"Yeah, I know him! He might as well be my brother, he's like my second best friend!!! But... How did he... Unless..." I stammered, and grabbed the bottle, pulling the letter out and reading it to myself.

"Hey, Bets. I know what you're thinking: How is Robert even here? Well, I don't know. All I know is I had a dream about Dark Link... I was fighting him in the Water Temple... And then just as I was about to die, just as he was about to kill me, he passed out. And so did I. When I woke up, I was laying in the Water Temple, soaking wet. In Dark Link's body. I have no idea how long I'm going to be able to hold on to my memories, I'm even doubting now that I, Robert, even existed. Somehow, though, I sensed that you were here. That you were in Hyrule, too. So... If you get this note... I'm in the Water Temple. Please come. I need to know that you do exist, that I do exist, and that I'm not just insane.

I looked up, and Link stared at me. "What is it?" He asked.

"My... My friend is here... In the water temple, in Dark Link's body..." I felt like I was going to faint. This was so insane!!! My friend came here too?!?!

"Who?" Link asked, and blinked, confused.

I sighed. "Listen. You have to go back to Zora's Domain and save Ruto. I...." I trailed off, and felt tears swell up in my eyes. "I... Have to go into the Water Temple. I'll find a way... Goddesses, I don't want to leave you alone but... I can't just let my friend sit in the Water Temple, going insane! Do... Do you understand?" I sniffled,mand a tear of guilt and sorrow rolled down my cheek.

"But... How am I supposed to save Ruto on my own, Bets??? I..." He looked down, at a loss for words.

I waded across the water, and wrapped him in a loving hug. "You can do it, Link. You... You've learned from me. You've grown up as we've gone along... And now... You have to do this one alone." Now my tears were flowing heavily, my eyes like fully cranked faucets.

"O-okay, Bets. I'll do it. Just... Stay safe, alright?" He hugged me tightly.

"I will... You stay safe too, Link." I hugged him one last time, squeezing him as tightly as I could, before I let go.

He smiled at me, and backed up, towards the portal. I smiled back at him, teary eyed, and he ducked under the water, through the portal.

I sighed, and looked out towards the Water Temple.

Tatl rubbed up against me, trying to comfort me. I hugged her gently, feeling the warmth my of my fairy friend against my stomach.

"I guess it's just you and me, huh Tatl?" I said, my heartstrings feeling like they had just been snipped.

She settled into my arms. "Yeah... Just you and me."
