Wolf Blood: New Beginnings

Chapter Seventeen

"..Rhydian or Jacob?"  That conversation was still going through Maddy's mind. She's been trying to think of other things but she always came back to that question. Ever since the party she's been thinking about both of the men in her life and she hasn't thought like that since her school years.

What do I do? Jacob was always there for me, even before Rhydian came into my life. But there is something with Rhydian that I don't have with Jacob. I can't figure out what it is though...what day is it?...

Maddy finally remembered the job she has so she rushed to get dressed and go to work. She ran down the stairs and saw Jacob and Rhydian watching TV peacefully.

"Hey guys, I have to go to work so I'll see you later when I get home."

Before they could respond Maddy was out the door. She ran all the way to the little village and head for the pet store. She walked in and saw the manager feeding a snake. She had a stern look on her face and Maddy realized that she hasn't been to work for at least a week.

"I am so sorry for not being here. Punish me all you want but please don't fire me. I need this job," Maddy's face was scrunched up, she made a face that looked like a little girl was about to blow her birthday candles.

"Give me a good reason why I shouldn't fire you. You haven't been here all week and you have made no call saying you'll be out." Maddyd didn't know what to say. All she did was apologize and left. She didn't go home yet because she didn't want to face Rhydian or Jacob so she roamed the village.

.....

"It's already four o'clock. Maddy should've been off work already." Jacob said.

"Don't worry. She probably has to stay behind and make up for the days she hasn't been to work." Rhydian coolly replied.

"That can't be right. If you owned your own store and then one of your new employees doesn't show up for a week of work...would you still let them work for you?"

"No..." Rhydian and Jacob looked at each other then ran for the door. They split up and began to look for Maddy. Rhydian went into the woods and Jacob went to the village. He started at the pet shop and he was right, Maddy doesn't work there anymore.

Meanwhile, Rhydian went to his and Maddy's spot from their school years and didn't see her. Then he went to the cliff and didn't see her either.

Maddy was at the school sitting on the picnic table, right where her and Rhydian always sat. She was thinking about Amelia's question, where to find a job and her family. She didn't know what to do.

"Maddy!"

She turned around and saw....

Rhydian was at the cliff and saw....

Jacob ran to his apartment and saw....
