I am woken up by the obnoxious sound of my alarm clock going off. I lift my hand from the comfort of my warm duvet and reach over, hitting the machine in the hopes of turning it off. The machine that interrupted my dream of laying on a beach somewhere far away from here without any responsibilities instead of being here in my apartment in London. I succeed and the machine stops making the horrendous noise. I groan and rub my eyes before slowly opening them and letting myself adjust to the light shining through my window.
After checking my phone for missed calls and incoming messages I open the email application. I delete all the spam and see a few important emails, one being from our manager. He informs us that our interview for this morning has been cancelled and that he hopes we will enjoy ourselves during a few days off. Why couldn't he have emailed us yesterday so I would have been able to sleep in? I'm wide awake after listening to the voicemails people left me and reading my email so I might as well get up and make the most of my day.
By the time I have taken a shower, put on some sweats and a t-shirt and dried my hair, I walk downstairs. I'm welcomed by the smell of freshly baked pancakes and I find Niall in the kitchen preparing breakfast. "Good morning," "Morning Haz. Would you like some pancakes?" Niall asks. "Please," I reply while taking a seat at the kitchen table.
Niall places the utensils, syrup and some pancakes on the table and takes a seat across from me. "What are you going to do during your days off?" he asks. "I think I'll go visit my mum, help her pack, hang out with her and Robin." My mum has sold her house to move in with her boyfriend and the least I can do is help her pack, especially because there are still a lot of my old belongings in the house that I grew up in.
I moved to London at the age of 16 because two months after my birthday I auditioned for the X-Factor and even though the judges liked my voice they thought it wasn't strong enough to build a career around. They offered to put me in a boyband with three others and we all agreed, knowing we'd be sent home otherwise. Looking back I'm glad the judges decided to give us this opportunity and Niall, Liam and Zayn have become my best friends over the past six years.
Now, at the age of 22, I'm living in London where I share an apartment with Niall because neither of us wanted to live alone. Zayn and Liam, on the other hand, have bought their own places not too far from here. We've released a few albums and toured across four out of the seven continents so it's safe to say we have become a rather well-known band.
Niall and I enjoy our breakfast and just talk about our plans for the upcoming days, Niall asks me if I want to drop him off at Luton airport around 1 o'clock, not wanting to call a cab or have someone else take him since Luton is actually on my way to Holmes Chapel. I agree and we finish packing our bags. It's only a four-day holiday but with schedules like ours, it's more than welcome.
We put the bags in my car and make our way onto the M1 for my 3-hour car journey. With plenty of time to spare before Niall's gate closes, I drop him off at the designated area. "Thanks for the ride Haz," he says while climbing out of the car and collecting his bags. "I'll see you in a few days!" I wave and quickly drive away from the airport before people take notice of me.
I turn the radio on, switch BBC radio 1 and sing along with the songs that I know. I make a few calls and before I know it I'm driving past the Holmes Chapel sign. I take a little detour because I'm curious to see what my old school looks like nowadays. I take a left and make my way onto the familiar road and drive past the Holmes Chapel comprehensive school. It hasn't changed a bit in the last six years, I smile at the memories of goofing off with my friends and the ugly black uniforms with yellow school logo.
