Chapter 6

Later...

Jen POV

The power wasn't on yet. But Riker and I had lit candles so we could see. It was still storming outside, and neither of our families were home yet.

We'd played cards for a little while, but that had gotten kind of boring. We were just sort of sitting around now, talking about random stuff.

"When do you think the power will be back?" Riker asked.

"I don't know... Hopefully soon."

"You know how you said you trusted me?"

"Yeah?"

"Why?"

"I don't know... Because you've been nice and stuff... And you saved me from when I was pushed into Lake George."

"Oh..."

"I mean, you haven't given me any reason not to trust you so far."

"Yeah..."

"I guess I was kind of mean to you when we first met. I was still getting over a bad breakup. I didn't mean to treat you like a jerk."

"It's ok... I get it."

"You've actually been really sweet to me. And I appreciate that."

Riker rolled over on the floor, and stretched out.

"I'm so tired," Riker said, yawning.

"Me too. It's been a tiring day."

"Jen!?"

"Yeah?"

"Um... I think I left my phone down at the beach!"

"You what!?"

"Yeah!"

"What are you going to do?"

"I don't know! I should probably go get it. Will you come with me?"

"Riker, it's pouring out."

"I know, but I hate storms and the dark, and I really need to get my phone. Please come. I don't want to be alone!"

Riker seemed to be kind of freaked out and desperate. So I agreed.

"Fine. But let's hurry! It's still storming out there!"

"Do you have a flashlight?"

"Yeah."

I handed it to him, and we made our way to the front door.

"Um... Can I hold onto your hand?" Riker asked, quietly.

"Yeah."

Riker took my hand gently, and we ran out the door. The road was slippery since it was made of little rocks. It was all muddy, and we could barely see where we were going, even with the flashlight.

"AH!"

Riker fell, and almost took me with him, but I stayed on my feet. I took the flashlight while he stood up. I shined it on his legs.

"Riker, you're bleeding!"

"I'll deal with it when we get back! We have to go find my phone!"

Riker took my hand, and started running again. We made it safely down to the beach, but Riker almost slipped a few times.

We started searching around the beach.

"When did you last have your phone?" I asked.

"When I came down here."
