Chapter 4 : Locked out

Chapter 4

The next day...

Riker POV

After I ate lunch, I went over to Jen's, and nervously knocked on her door. She answered it moments later.

"Hi, Jen!"

"Oh. I have your hoodie. Um... Come in..."

Jen let me in, and went down the hall, probably to get my hoodie. She came back 30 seconds later.

"Here's your hoodie. Thanks for letting me borrow it last night."

"No problem!"

"So um... Why are you here?"

"Oh! Right. Um... I was wondering if you wanted to come over."

"And do what?"

"I don't know. We could just hang out."

"Who?"

"You and me!"

"What about your siblings?"

"Uh... I don't know what they're doing."

Jen sighed.

"What? Do you not like me or something?"

"Riker, here's the thing... That guy that pushed me into Lake George last night... That was my ex boyfriend. It wasn't a good experience. I just feel uncomfortable when I'm around other guys now. Especially if I'm alone."

"Oh..."

I stared down at my feet.

"Sorry, Riker..."

"No, I understand... But if my siblings were around, would you want to come hang out?"

"I don't know... Maybe..."

"Um... Ok."

"I just don't really have very good luck with people, Riker. I don't want to make friends if it's going to end in something bad."

"It won't! My family is really nice!"

Jen just stared at the floor.

"So do you want to come over and hang out? Or if it made you feel better, maybe we could all go down to the lake and go swimming."

"Fine."

"Cool! I'll meet you down there in a few minutes!"

Later...

Jen POV

I was actually sort of having fun with Riker and his siblings. We'd played marco polo a bunch of times. And the boys had a diving contest off of the raft, which was about 50 out from the shore.

Everyone had gotten kind of tired, so we were just kind of laying on our towels on the beach. I closed my eyes, and fell asleep.

Later...

Jen POV

I opened my eyes, realizing I'd fallen asleep. And I was pretty much dry now. I sat up, and everyone was gone except for Riker. He was sitting on his towel, doing something on his phone, about 3 feet from me. He looked over.

"You're awake."

"Why are you still down here?"

"I didn't want to leave you down here by yourself. And besides, it's a really nice day out."

I nodded slowly.

"I think I'm going to head back up to my house."

"Ok! I'll walk you!"
