Chapter 5

Later...

Riker POV

Jen was sitting on her bed, and I was sitting on the floor. But it was pretty comfortable. Jen had a fluffy purple carpet.

We hadn't really talked much, but when we had, it seemed less awkward for some reason.

I couldn't get my mind off of her having a panic attack though. I just didn't really understand.

"Jen? Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Why did you have a panic attack?"

Jen sighed.

"Well... I'm not sure... But I think I have a guess... My parents called. And some aunt that I don't know is in the hospital. So my parents are going to stay with her tonight, which means, I'll be home alone. And I've never been home alone before for the night. I'm really scared about it."

"You could stay over my house if you want."

"No, that's ok... I just have to deal with it..."

"Ok... But if you change your mind, you can always come over."

"Ok... Thanks, Riker."

I smiled.

Later...

Riker POV

It was about 11:30 now, and I was staring out my bedroom window at Jen's house. She was alone, and I was kind of worried. I felt bad too.

My parents had already gone to bed, so sneaking out was easy. I snuck out the front door, and went over to Jen's. I knocked, and she answered it.

"Hey. Um... I was just wondering if you wanted to stay over my house instead of being alone."

"Um..."

"You wouldn't even have to sleep in the same room as me and my brother if you didn't want to. You could sleep in my sister's room."

Jen seemed to be thinking about it...

"Ok, let me go grab a few things though."

"Ok."

I waited for Jen, and then she locked her house. We walked over to my house, and snuck back inside. I led her up to Rydel's room, and then knocked quietly on the door.

"Come in."

"Rydel, you remember Jen, right?"

"Yeah."

"Well, she's home alone tonight, so I was hoping she could stay here so she's not alone."

"Yeah, of course she can!"

I watched Rydel help Jen get settled, and then I went to bed.

The next day...

Riker POV

My parents had gone out really early this morning to run errands. They were going to a bunch of places to get things for our house. They were repainting some of the rooms, looking at carpet samples, and a bunch of other things too.

When I came downstairs, I saw Rydel and Jen sitting at the table. I slid myself into a seat next to Jen. She looked at me, and smiled slightly.

"So what are we doing today?" I asked.

"I don't know. Whatever..." Rydel said.

"We should go swimming. It looks like a nice day out," I said, looking out the window.
