Laurence was already seated when I stepped inside the classroom.
He must have felt my presence because his eyes began to flutter
Open. I tried my best not to look at him, but I didn't turn to him.
"Y/N," he said again, leaning slightly closer to mr.
"What?"
"About last Friday," he began. "Why were you with Travis Valkrum?" He asked just as Mr.Midzilla entered the classroom.
Laurence was distracted for a moment.
"You know what kind of guy he is."
I opened my binder, not acknoledging Laurence at all.
"He's just playing with you," Laurence continued, not letting my silence deter him. "Stay away from him."
At that point, I coudn't help but turn to him. "Who i hang out with is none ot your businesd, Laurence."
"He'll only break your heart." His voice rose a little, as though saying it louder was going to help him make his point.
"Oh, don't worry," I spat out. "You already did that for him." He flinched and stared at me for a few speechlesd seconds,
Like he was trying to come up with an answer.
"Look, I'm sorry," he finally said. He sounded so sincere I could almost feel something tug at my heart. "But please. Stay away from-''
"Zvahl,Y/S/N!"
I jumped a little in my seat
"Detention!" Mr.Modzilla barked at us. "Both of you."
"What? No, I wasn't-" I began ti defend myself but was cut off by the older man clearing his throat loudly and telling the class to get a piece of paper out.
I turned to glare at Laurence.
"Crap," he muttered, giving me a sideways glance.
I could tell he wanted to apologize, but before he could speak again, I looked away. I coudn't stand listening to another apology of his.

Mrs.Emalyn, the school librarian, happened to be in charge of detention. We followed her to the library until we reached one of the locked doors just beside the counter.
I looked around, surveying the shelves that covered all the walls of the room as well as the long table in the middle, where several books and folders were stacked haphazardly.
Geaturing at the table, she said, " I need you both to arrange these according to file type and the date they were published. Put the folders in the drawer over there and leave the books on top of the table. Understood!"
I nodded.
"Very well," she said and stalked out of the room. Laurence shifted, turning to look at me. "Where should we start?"
I didn't want to work with him, so I walked over to the other end of the Table. I'll work on the folders. You go with the books."
The minutes ticked by without either of us saying a word I was beginning to forget that he was there, until he decided to speak.
"I meant it." He paused, a book in hand, and lifted his gaze to look at me straight in the eye. "I don't know what's going on between the two of you, but Travis Valkrum's bad news."
"It's none of your business."
He didn't say anothet word until we finished. I stacked the last folders together and placed them in the drawer.

Mrs.Emalyn was scribbling on something when we both got out of the room. She nearly nodded at us when she left the library.
I didn't walk with Laurence to the parking lot, so I pretended I needed something from my locker and let him walk ahead.
When I was sure he was far enough, I walked out as well.
I almost reached the main doors when I heard Travis's voice calling out my name.
"Hey, Y/S/N," he said when he was close enough. "Why are you still here?"
"I got detention," I replied
Suddenly I remembered Travis's offer. As we stepped out if the building together,I said, Let's do it."
He turned to me with a small frown. "What?"
"Let's pretend we're going out." I swallowed, wanting to take the words back.
He didn't say anything for a while
"You k ow what?" I said, walking faster so he woudn't see my cheeks turning red. "Nevermind."
He grabbed me by the arm, his fingers warm and suprisingly gentle. "Okay," he said. "Let's do it."
