Travis ordered ice cream for the two of us. As I heaped a spoonful into my mouth, we heard a shriek coming from our right. We both looked up to see what the commotion was all about and found Balto chasing Eclipse, holding out a rubber snake.
Travis and I both laughed as we watched the two of them, laughing even harder when Eclipse realized it wasn't a real snake. She stopped running, put both of her hands on her hips, and glared at Balto.
I peered out at Travis, who was shaking his head at the two of them. "Do you know what happened between Eclipse and Balto? It's so obvious that they still like each other."
"So what do you think they should do?" His eyes fluttered to mine. "Two people obviously like each other."
"They should just tell each other."
I thought that he shared the same opinion, so I stared at him in surprise when he suddenly let out a sigh. "It's not as simple as that," he said.
"If they would just-"
"Let's say Laurance appeard out of nowhere to tell you he still loves you," he said, cutting me off completely. "And obviously, you still love him, what would you do?"
It felt as though he had just punched me in the gut.
"You can deny it all you want," he added. "But denying something dosen'te it less true."
"This isn't about him."
"Isn't it?" He snapped. "With you, it's always about him."
"That's not true."
He stepped forward so that we were face-to-face. "It is and you know it. You may be asking about Eclipse and Balto, when you know that it isn't about him."
When a I didn't say anything, he took a step back.
"Sometimes," he said, adding, "feelings aren't enough to bury the past and all the sh*t that happened between now and then."
My chest constricted. "Is that how you feel about Katelyn?"
This time, he was the one who flinched.
For a second I thought I saw flashes of emotions flicker across his face, but then his gaze hardened.
"How do you know about Katelyn?"
He was calm, but I could hear the anger in his voice.
I didn't bother answering him. Instead, I turned away to walk back to the group. "You can have all the ice cream."
I haven't even taken two steps yet his hand shot out to grab my arm. "Who told you about Katelyn?"
Jerking my hand away, I looked over to my shoulder and leveled my gaze with his. "You are a hypocrite, Valkrum, and you know it."
Almost as if my words have burned him, he released me.
Encourage by this, I said, "You keep telling me to tell you about all the sh*t I'm going through, but you're the one keeping secrets here."
He clenched his fists, regarding me with a cold stare. "I've told you everything," I shot back.
I held his gaze for a moment, waiting for his eyes to soften, at least just the slightest bit, but they didn't. So I left.

"Okay, spill."
I looked up at Eclipse and Lala as they pinned me down with hostile glares.
"Spill what?"
"You and Travis!" Eclipse yelled. "Something's up between the two of you."
"What are you talking about?" I said, looking at anything but them.
I should known something was up when they suddenly dragged me to the bathroom, and now I was cornered with nowhere to escape.
Lala narrowed her eyes. "You fought. You've been avoiding each other for the past thirty minutes."
