"This is never going to happen," Balto had been saying for the past hour since the last period ended.

"Look at me," Travis said, placing both hands on Balto's shoulders. "You can do this. We can do this."

But Balto didn't seem convinced.

"Say it with me," Travis said carefully. "We can do this."

Balto complied and by the time Travis and I had to go to pick up the kegs, Balto had gotten his sh*t together. It had been fifteen minutes since we left the campus for Eclipse's surprise party. Balto had drilled every step of the plan into our heads, from distracting Eclipse and letting her believe we would only be eating out a seafood restaurant to setting things up at Brandon's backyard.

"Did Balto text again?" Travis asked me as soon as he slid into the driver's seat.

I laughed and shook my head.

"Either he's finally calmed down," Travis said as he started to pull out of the driveaway," or he already had a nervous breakdown."

We were assigned to pick up the kegs and cake. Balto has texted seventeen times, asking for updates, and it was amusing to watch Travis patiently deal with him when Balto resorted to calling updates.

After the third call ended, I couldn't help but say, "How long have the two of you been friends?"

"Since we were in third grade," Travis replied.

"That explains it."

He raised an eyebrow at me. "Explains what?"

I shrugged. "I think you're the only one who could manage to calm him down."

"Ah." His lips twitched into a small smile . "It goes both ways." I wondered when he needed to be calmed down by Balto

By the time we arrived at Brandon's house, Travis and I immediately helped set things up. Whem everything was in place, we slumped into different seats. All of us were exhausted. It was five minutes to seven when Lala told us that she and Eclipse were on their way. I caught Travis's gaze from across the lawn. He was motioning to his best friend, who was now mumbling incoherently under his breath. When he saw me, Travis simply shrugged, thin his face broke out into a wide grin.

I couldn't help but lean back.

Two hours later, the party was in full swing. I watched the scene play out before me. A faint smile appeared on my lips when I remembered how Eclipse had reacted to the whole thing the moment we yelled surprise.

She stood there, stunned, then her eyes began to water. Eclipse thanked all of us profusely. When she got me, she hugged me so tightly I was almost sure one of my ribs had been bruised.

"I didn't do much," I replied. "It was all Balto

"I'm not thanking you for just this," she said, gesturing to the party that was beginning to pick up. "I'm just glad Travis found someone like you. I haven't seen you for so long."

"You think."

"You know that wide, goofy grin of his?" she asked. 'I hadn't seen that since Katelyn."

My heart sanked to my stomach. "Katelyn?"

Before Eclipse could elaborate, her friends who wanted to greet her pulled her away, and then I lost her in the crowd.

Katelyn must have been the one who broke Travis's heart.

I could see Travis seated on the wooden railing around the back porch with some guys from school. There was a wide smile on his face as he joked around with them.
