Emma's P.O.V:
Stepping out of my yellow bug into the frosty winter chill, I shiver in my light clothing. I can't afford a jacket right now, and with temperatures like these here in New York, I really need one. Having just gotten out of jail for the crime Neal set me up to take the blame for a few months ago, I'm desperate for a job. Unfortunately, anyone who takes a look at my record turns me away in an instant after seeing that I have time. I straighten out my shirt and jeans, trying to look as presentable as possible. I usually couldn't care less about my looks considering I live in my car, but I have a job interview to get to, and I at least want to look decent. Hugging myself and rubbing my arms in my red leather jacket to keep warm, I stuff my keys in my purse and walk down the sidewalk to a diner. They need a new waitress and I'm hoping they'll take me in.
"NO!" the woman shouts, slamming the door in my face.
Well that went well, I think. I'm about to head back to my bug and cry when I spot a bar called The Jolly Roger not very far away. I could use a drink after a day full of rejection.
I rush to the bar and step inside. I'm met with a blast of warm air which I take in gratefully. Taking a seat at the bar, I wait for the man behind it to finish flirting and come over already. I clear my throat to get his attention.
"Excuse me ladies," he says with a grin, walking over to me. He's tall, and well built, with a strong chest. He has the deepest blue eyes I've ever seen, and they sparkle in the light. His hair is dark brown, and I have this strange urge to run my fingers through it. No wonder he has all the girls' attention.
"Can I get a beer?" I asks.
"Depends. Are you of age?" He jokes.
"Unless you consider 26 years old too young, then yes, yes I am."
"Very well," he says with a smirk, clearly trying to charm me. I just roll my eyes. Not interested. The man shows off, doing fancy tricks as he prepares the beer. I glare at him as he hands my my glass, and he raises an eyebrow.
"May I ask what would a lady like you is doing at a bar?" he asks.
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
"No one is forcing you to say anything, I'm merely making friendly conversation."
"Why don't you go flirt with your friends over there, because flirting with me isn't gonna do you any good."
"Well I do like a challenge. Now are you going to answer my question?" he asks. I roll my eyes, and he raises his eyebrows. I sigh.
"I can't get a job because by shitty ex set me up and I ended up spending some time in jail. No one will take me in," I say, looking away.
"You need a job? You could work here," he suggests. I laugh.
"Sure, like your boss would ever accept someone like me."
"Let me check. Yep, he said yes." He grins at me.
"What, you own this place?" I ask, surprised.
"Aye, lass. Well, me and my brother, Liam. Do you want the job or not?" he asks.
"You don't even know my name, why are you helping me?"
"Well, we need a female worker here anyways, and no one I've encountered has needed a job. As for your name, well I'm sure you'll gladly inform me." He winks at me and I roll my eyes.
"Emma. Emma Swan."
"Killian Jones. Now do you want the job?"
"Yes!" I say a bit too loudly. "Yes, I'll take it. Thank you. When do I start?" I ask eagerly. The sooner I start, the sooner I get money, and the sooner I can get an actual home.
