Lunch time came quickly, Vincent knew to take an easy on Kassidy when she was remembering her father.
"Will you tell me again Vincent", she looked at him longingly. Vincent knew he was no match for her puppy dog eyes, but he tried to fight it.
"My Lady I have told you a thousand times", he looked at her hoping she would forget about it. "Please Vincent", she added her pouting lip, and Vincent was defeated. "Oh alright, after lunch we can squeeze in story time before we go to town", he hung his head in defeat. Kassidy giggled, she and Vincent knew he was rapped around her fingers.
After lunch Kassidy waited for Vincent in the parlor, he finally entered with afternoon tea. She sat on the sofa and patted on the seat so Vincent would sit down.
He poured two cups, and offered the first to Kassidy, he then sat down on the sofa.
"Sigh, I wish you wouldn't make me replay this story my Lady", he stated as he sipped the tea. "Vincent please", she pouted looking at the ground. He looked at her and began again. "The reason why I hate this story is because it brings back memories of your terrified face", he looked at her again, "but none the less, you requested it."
"Now let's begin", Kassidy leaned against Vincent, and he rapped his arm around her.
"When you were around three years old, your father was beginning to feel the stress of a single parent, due to your mother dying during your birth. He was a genius scientist, but having to entertain you was beginning to put stress on him. One night after you were in bed he stood on the mansion's terrace, and wept, he was asking for help, I heard his call. Suddenly I appeared I was between my human and white wolf shapes, and I startled him, he asked me who I was. I explained that he had called for assistance, I was there to offer it, but it would come at a cost. We signed the contract. In this deal, I was to serve as the head butler, or castle steward, he also put you in my care." Vincent paused and took a sip of tea. "Under the contract, I took care of you, allowing him to focus on his studies. He was to finish his work on the topic, and when he finished he would show his findings to the scientific community. In this he lost sight of you, he missed you growing up, and even as a demon, I felt bad for you." He paused again, "I think it's from my being part white wolf", he smiled. "When you were around nine, he came to me, and said eureka, he had finally found what he was looking for. All that was left was to show his findings to his colleagues." Taking another sip of tea, he looked down pleasing to not have to finish the story. Kassidy looked up, "it's almost over." Vincent sighed, "yes, miss. That night we accompanied him to his lecture, you behaved very well. After the lecture I left you with him, hoping he would say goodbye to you, but he nearly lost you in the crowd, if you remember I'm the one who found you. He was so busy getting congratulatory greetings from people, so I took you to the carriage to put you to bed, it was a late night. An hour later your father came out, he asked to take the long way, he knew his night had come. I allowed it and told him to say goodbye to you, he sat next to you and asked how this was going to play out. I explained what was coming, he breathed nervously. When we came to the place I asked him if he had any last request. He did, he knew I as a demon had no use of money, he asked me to find you a home or boarding school that would take care of you. I nodded in agreement, we left you in the carriage for me to return to you, and walked down the path a little ways. I sat him on the bench. He was finished minutes later." Vincent's eyes began to glow, and he shook his head to calm himself. "Sorry my Lady. A few minutes after wards I began to stage the scene to make it appear to be an accident. All of a sudden I heard a child crying, I walked to the body and found you hugging your father."
"He never said goodbye, Vincent", she looked up slowly. Soberly Vincent stated, "I know my Lady."
"At the ending of the night, I had to pry you off him, I left the carriage and carried you home to insure you didn't jump out of the carriage, and go back to him. You didn't know any better, you thought he was injured by something else, not me."
"When I got you home, cleaned you up, fed you, and put you to bed, I returned to hie body, and staged a carriage accident so nobody would expect anything."
Kassidy looked down at her empty cup, Vincent stood and filled it for her. "I wish you wouldn't ask for that story so often, it is not a story for a young lady like you", he stated again.
"I know Vincent, but I don't want to forget."
