Chapter 28

Denver International Airport

As the cargo bay of the C-130 airplane opened, Cameron wiped away a tear.  His beautiful bride, whom he hasn’t seen in 6 months, has finally come home to him.  Too bad it was not alive so he could see her beautiful smile, see that sparkle in her eye she has when she looks at him and to kiss her soft lips again.

The bay door is fully open and an American embassy official stepped out and shook Cameron’s hand and gave his regards.  Cameron nodded his head and followed the official into the bay to find a white-draped container in the middle of the bay, strapped down and waiting for him to retrieve.

The crew was currently detaching the straps and was quietly preparing the container for off lifting to the awaiting van.  After the crew removed the straps, they lifted the container on a cart and began to wheel it out of the bay towards the van.

Cameron shed tears silently as the container was placed into the van and the doors closed.  “I will find out what did this my love.  I only wish I could have been with you for your last breath.  I miss you and love you and will make sure you are at peace.”

The van started and drove off with his life partner in it.  He walked to his car and sat down next to his boss.  “So, my son, do you think that this was the creature that we have been studying?  Take her back home and bury her proper and call me when you are ready to take care of this.”  Cameron turned and looked at his companion and sighed heavily.  He hated being called son by this motherfucker.  Especially now, with Emily gone.

They rode in silence until they reached the brown building nestled in the Rocky Mountains six miles outside of Denver.  His passenger turned to him, looked at him and just sighed before he got out and walked into the building.

Cameron picked up his phone and called a number he hated to dial but needed to in order to take care of business.  When the lady answered, Cameron spoke, “Hello Mrs. Rice, Its Cameron, she is back here in the states.  I just got her and they are taking her to the mortuary.  I have made arrangements, but if Dr. Rice requires other arrangements, he can make them.”

Thank you my dear, and please know that we are so sorry for this.  We know you loved Emily and have done your best in this time of trouble.  God be with you.  I love you.”  Mrs. Rice said.  Cameron hung up the phone and after starting his car, and drove to the mortuary to take care of the final preparations for his love.
