Chapter 16

Village of Capo Tepoca

Miguel sat contemplating what he had seen in the dorm and what implications it had for the village.  Fourteen dead, ten of which were the guards for the town and police force; three of the men were children of the villagers that stayed in the dorms to have a place to sleep.  Lastly, the dorm master himself was mangled so badly that it took several people to identify his body.

The villagers that helped him go in the dorms were astonished at the sheer amount of blood that was on the walls, floors and ceilings, as well as the destruction of the bunks and lockers inside the rooms.  Whatever animal did this left large, deep scratches in the bodies, walls and bed sheets that were strewn around the rooms.

Several of the hardened men that entered, became sick from the smell and damage of the bodies of their friends and kinfolk.  “Dos Mios, Miguel!  What the fuck did this?”  The men who had to piece together the men inside struggled to place the correct arm or head with the correct bodies.

It took two days to gather the bodies and place them in body bags and put them in graves so the families would not have to see their loved ones.  Many tears and cries of anguish could be heard during the funerals and afterwards at the receptions for the victims.

The priest walked along each grave, performing the burial rites of the Catholic Church as Miguel watched.  His mind was wandering when the Priest approached him and began to speak, “Senor Avalos, what say you for this to families and their need for answers?  Do you have a suggestion as to what we will do now?  Miguel looked at the priest and blinked at his accusatory tone.

“What do you have me do father?  Do you think I brought this destruction upon my village?  How can you stand here and accuse me of this?”  Then Miguel turned to the villagers that had gathering during their exchange.  “I will find out what happened.  Not today, not tomorrow, but give me a chance to contact someone who may help us.  Do not listen to all naysayers who say I cannot do my job!”  He stared into the eye of the Priest; turned and headed to his office to make a phone call to the one person he has always been able to consult.

The Priest turned away and headed to the church, his mind wandering to the God he worshipped for guidance and answers.  Also, he had friends that he knew that may help as well.  If Senor Avalos did not perform his duties as he sees fit, the priest will surely make him regret it.  He walked into his study, sat down and grabbed a black book at the end of his shelf.  Opening it, he proceeded to look up a number he never thought he would need to call again.  Looking at the book and the phone, he felt he had no choice.  He picked up the phone and dialed.  When the man answered, the Priest knew it was too late to turn back.
