I mulled over my fate as I settled into the empty house. Gabriel has been hidden away in his office for over three hours, and I have been just sitting, sitting and watching TV. Was I going to spend my last days staring at a screen? Did it matter? Was it any better than spending my days droning on, feeling lonely and useless?
I felt as if I was having my own pity party, and I was so consumed in my thoughts that I did not hear someone at the door until their third knock. Gabriel came out of his office and threw a glance in my direction before he went and answered the door.
“What are you doing here?” I heard his voice ask.
“I wanted to see her, see if she was worthy of you.” A male voice asked.
“I'll save you the time, she's not. Now, go, I don't want to deal with you right now.”
“She smells good.” The other voice said longingly. I smelt good, what was that supposed to mean? How could he even smell me, I was in the other room?
“I have feeling that you won't leave me be until you see her, so come in.” I heard the door click and in came Gabriel and another man. He was tall, not as Gabriel but tall enough, he had green eyes that I could see a mile away, eyes that matched leaves in the spring and he had short blonde hair that was a deep gold that reminded me of gold when it is being burned of impurities.
His eyes widened when he saw me.
“You weren’t kidding.” He said, looking me over. I could say his words stung, but in all honesty, I did not care what he said.
“I wouldn’t lie to you about something like this, now are you ready to leave?”
“She smells wonderful, though. Maybe if I have just a taste.”
“No, you know that may taint her, I need her pure for this to work, I can't risk you destroying my plans. I have been working at this long enough and I would kill you if you were to mess this up.” What were they talking about, what was it he wanted to taste from me? Moreover, why were they talking about purities?
“Just a taste, Gabriel, it won't ruin anything. I will simply slice her, she smells simply mouthwatering, how do you resist her?”
“The idea of what she is going to offer me keeps me from acting out my desires; she is worth more to me than a simple taste.”
I considered telling them that I was in the room, I considered complaining about them talking about me as if I were an object, but then I decided against it and I turned my eyes back to the television. I wanted to know what they were speaking about, especially since Gabriel thought that I was worth something and that they were speaking of tasting me as if I were some rare drink, but I knew that questioning them would get me nothing other than a few more bruises on my neck.
“I heard her parents had a five million out for her.”
“How did you know who her parents were?”
“Do you remember when you ran their names across me? Well, I actually looked up who they were, unlike you, and I knew who she was and the moment I saw her parents I knew that they were going to make an offer, I just never knew what she looked like. How did she survive over the other girls?”
